DayZ and perceived difficulty problems

Recommended Posts

Every time a new change is made to DayZ a vitriolic opinion thread immediately pops up with people making the usual exchanges of 'this game is absolutely impossible I died 15 times without finding any baked beans' versus 'you're just a terrible player, I find it so easy'.

One of the things I think people lose site of in this game is the relative difficulty and how massive a difference experience makes.

If you're brand new to the game you don't know where any loot spawns, you don't know where you are on the map, you don't know where to head for, you certainly don't know where you're going to find zombies, heck, you're probably still struggling with the cumbersome control scheme.

Some of the more experienced players attack new players who complain about the difficulty and will say 'this game is meant to be hard, it's more realistic to not have a gun, you're just not good enough' - but really the new player's job is ten times harder than the experienced player's. The reality is that the experienced player can pop into Cherno via a sneaky back route and pick up some military gear. The new player has to wander around the countryside for days without a gun until the eventually somehow find an unguarded barn that will probably only have empty tin cans in anyway. The new player's experience is artificially made ten times harder than that of the long term player.

I think more people should take this into account as the mod changes. Sure, starting without a weapon may be an interesting challenge for you with 30 hours training under your belt during all of which you were always looked after for with a gun, but it makes the game all but impossible for a huge number of people without the benefit of your experience.

But you forgot one thing.

Expirienced Players are not born as expirienced Players. We died to makarovs on the beach, got sniped in Cherno, we asked stipud questions in global chat and we got raped by zombies to get the expirience we now have.

Thats the same rule for alle new players. Adapt or die. You'll have to accept the challenge, and this means dying a lot sometimes. The more you die, the more you learn, you'll make less mistakes and live longer.
