Questions about Servers: Community and Host

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

My name is John, and I have played DayZ for about half a year now, and I was thinking of starting my own private hive server. I'm tired of jumping around servers, not knowing what to expect from them. I'd like to host a solid, reliable Chernarus veteran server, with good admins who want the game to be played fair. Equally as important, the server would need a solid community.

First off, which server host do you recommend? Hosting locally is obviously not an option, because I need reliability, which I can't provide myself. DayZ.st have good rates and seem to be solid, but do you have any other tips?

Secondly, I've been thinking about how to build such a community. Is this type of server too common, or is it something desirable? Would you want to play on a server like this? Any input is more than welcome.

Thank you very much for answering,

John, JohnAJ in-game

It's really difficult to just start your own server, have it be populated with a nice community and have it all. I recently just rented one and (thanks to the friends I have iRL) we got ours up and running, for the most part. We use Dayz.ST and I've found that a lot of features aren't accessible unless you're a wizard to these sorts of things and their support is awful. Maybe I've just had the worst luck getting an answer about some of the questions I've had.. but I've had other friends try as well. If you can find a nice, abundant community who is interested in getting their own server and like what you have to offer, you could do it that way.. but as far as populating it, it's quite difficult.

Just my thoughts on it though,

I hope, if you do get a server, it goes well and be sure to send me the IP and I'll come chat!
