Mojo (DayZ) 66 Posted May 9, 2012 Now a lot of you are asking me for donation links in game. I mean a lot. Now, the way I figure it, most of you are just very cheap and/or broke and faking it to get on my good side. That's very smarmy of you, and I admire that. You're still beautiful to me.On the other hand, I figure an equal amount of you are honest, caring people that want to find some way to contribute to DayZ and the community. That's very noble of you, and you should feel good about yourselves. If you're serious (and you should be), here's the link:DONATE! DONATE! DONATE!DONATE! DONATE! DONATE!So what does donating get you?-MORE SERVERS! More servers means more slots. More slots means better chances of joining.-SHINIES! We have a TeamSpeak 3 server at ts3.MonolithServers.com. Soon we will have a website set up. With forums. You can talk there. Shinies are things we give you to let you know we adore you. (And I hope all of you know how much I adore you given how much time I spend not playing the game and just trying to get you guys squared away -- and don't get me wrong, I enjoy doing this.) They also let you lord your status over people who haven't donated. You can make up a funny nickname for them, like "freebies" or "pubbies" or "Aunt Harriet" -- you're only limited by your imagination! So what does donating not get you?-Guaranteed slots: Guys, there's hours where I go without playing on my own server because the server is full. I have never kicked anybody to make room for somebody else, myself included, and I never, ever will. Not myself, not you, not anybody else. The server is there for the community, and that includes me, but it doesn't revolve around me. And me and owl pay a heck of a lot for these servers. The same goes for you guys. Donating increases the server instances we can put up, and that increases your chances. That's the best we can do.-The right to abuse people who haven't donated. Well, abuse them too much, anyway. Feel free to call them Aunt Harriet as instructed above. Nobody gets special status on our servers. Nobody gets to play God. Well, God gets to play God, but I don't think he plays DayZ. If God logs into our servers, then he can play God. You can't, and we won't, and we won't tolerate people who do. You can play survivor or bandit. If rocket introduces a foul-mouthed sailor, you can play that too. Alternatively, you can go to the Suggestions forum and ask that rocket add God, so you can play as Him.And, carrying on, what Chicago 1 is and isn't:- Is Monolith a clan? No. We are a community. A community with a squad.xml file that makes us feel like big men. Mostly we just walk around typing *scary klaxon noise* in side channel when we do things, because we're too stupid to figure out how to get inceptionhorn.ogg to play properly on our server.- Is Mojo a dev? No. I get this one a lot, and I don't know why. So no. Donating to me won't get the DayZ devs to update faster.- Will I get kicked for killing a Monolith guy? Hells no. Never. If you beat us in PvP combat, thems the breaks. You were a better shot, or you got lucky, or you saw us when we didn't see you, or we were too busy typing *scary klaxon noise* to do anything about it. We don't kick for killing us. You won, we lost.**Unless, of course, you're cheating. In which case you will be kicked and banned. Don't do it.- You can also be sure that our server(s) are pretty heavily administrated. We can't always be around, but I try to be, helping new players through the processes of getting in game, swearing at Hive when it fails, mostly hiding north of the NW airfield alt-tabbed out of the game making sure the server doesn't crash, and kicking people that scream racial slurs in group chat while waiting to get in.Wow, what a long post. Congratulations if you read this far! If you did, include the message "IReadTheWholeGoddamnPost" in your special comment to the donation recipient. It won't actually get you anything, but it will baffle Owl, who will have no damn idea what you're talking about.I love you all.Your pal,Mojo

Mojo (DayZ) 66 Posted May 12, 2012 isnt this server capped at 30 players lolLong answer: It's true. The server is capped at 30 people. This is confusing for many of our players' date=' because they see x/50 in the server browser, and we [i']appear to have 50 people on at all times.Something I haven't told you guys is that Chicago 1 is haunted. There's 30 players and 20 ghosts on at any time. We had called a Catholic Priest and asked him to perform an exorcism on the VPS, but it turns out holy water is not dielectric (which also blows my plan of immersion-cooling my system with it and getting better pings because it's closer to God) and will, in fact, get the manager of the datacenter to personally call you up and tell you he's going to "kill you" and is "outside your house, right now" with a "gun" in his "car".Pfft, whatever that technobabble means, nerd. I just need you to TCP/IP into my USRobotics modem and make sure my JPEGs are being uploaded to Windows 3.1.Short answer: No.
jschaefer97@gmail.com 2 Posted May 13, 2012 @Oktyabr Currently 3rd person and the crosshair are still in, but nameplates/spotting is turned off. If possible it would be nice to have just 3rd person, but no crosshair.

Almost as big, is that it does not show in the bottom right when someone dies, so you better be damn well certain you finish someone off before going to loot them or you might be in for a surprise. Also I don't think I've seen a mod this interactive with the players on his server and willing to listen to anyones questions or complaints (which sometimes last all day non stop lol) You might say that Mojo is the best, around. You might even go as far as to say that nothing is ever going to keep him down. But I digress, yes pvp is much approved.@vedicardi way to have a sense of humor. Almost as big, is that it does not show in the bottom right when someone dies, so you better be damn well certain you finish someone off before going to loot them or you might be in for a surprise.[/quote']Yes, nameplates are responsible for 90% of jenkem production in the world. We're going to experiment in the coming days with getting rid of 3rd Person as well. This, beyond anything else, is the most surprisingly divisive thing to take out. Nameplates are a no-brainer, crosshairs don't upset most people who can cope with ADS (and even the influx of CoD casuals has the instinct to ADS by now -- not that there's anything wrong with CoD other than the fact that the series hit its stride at CoD2 and turned into a Michael Bay movie every iteration after ps: fact, not debatable; CoD2 best CoD.)So, in a few days, we'll finally settle the debate as to whether 3rd Person is a corner peek cheat or a way to watch your ass quiver fetchingly as you travel overland, working your glutes and burning those calories (you know those 8 steaks from the cow grazing the tarmac go straight to your hips.)Also I don't think I've seen a mod this interactive with the players on his server and willing to listen to anyones questions or complaints (which sometimes last all day non stop lol) You might say that Mojo is the best' date=' around.[/quote']First, you are very beautiful for feeding my ego. Thank you. I love you.Second, anybody reading this thread can and should know that I adhere to some basic philosophies as administrator of any server I run.1. Your players are not extensions of you. When you throw a birthday party, you get presents. Your friends get loot bags and cake. And everybody plays the games. Having a server lets me host a birthday party 24/7. Who wants to go to the party of the kid that says "fuck you the cake is mine, the presents are mine, and I win all the games?"Hosting a server is a chance to get a bunch of players together. #kick and #exec ban should be used for the kids that take a dump on the floor, not a way to wave your daddy's Glock in the face of the kid that actually managed to pin the tail on the donkey. If your players aren't having a good time, step up your game administrating/moderating.2. Administrator experience is based on player experience. Give your players a good time, and they'll give it to you in return. The server could have been set up close to me, like in Montreal or Toronto. But why? Chicago gives everybody in North America the best experience overall. That's just one step you can to cater as many players as possible. Experience should be limited by personality, not qualities beyond the player's control, be it race, gender, sexual orientation, or, yes, location. If I could make all you sunshines low ping bastards, I would. Alas.3. Administrators are ambassadors, not only for our own server, but for DayZ itself. As much as the Dev Team may not like it, the only way to experience their work at the moment is through 3rd-party admins, who are largely given free reign. Certain actions are generally frowned upon, but there's no real penalty for using your players as a vehicle to try to get both half-inches of your penis as far into your own mouth as you possibly can. These types of administrator actions devalue the community, and they devalue the work of the devteam. They're egotistical acts of semi-internal sabotage of the mod that, as an administrator for the servers, you ostensibly enjoy. Mistreating your players mistreats your own community.4. Do you see players on your server trying to make a power grab? It's not because they think your server belongs to them. It's because you're not administrating properly. They aren't trying to take over what you paid for. They're trying to institute a semblance of order where order is lacking. They aren't trying to usurp your throne; they're trying to sit in it because nobody else is.I can leave my servers to go to sleep, work, or whatever, confident that my regulars can assure the rotational players that yes, Mojo does administrate this server and yes, if there's players breaking the rules, while it may go unpunished now, rest assured he will hear about it. And it will be dealt with.5. Fairness. I treat my regulars and my newbies with a firm but flexible hand. It's about knowing when to say yes and when to say no. People who donate don't get automatic yes answers, and people who've shown up for the first time don't get automatic nos. If I need to restart the server, I'll generally grant an extra five minutes if a player needs to find their body. But it's the only time I'll do it, otherwise the requests will keep stacking. I've lost my own body (and nice loot like NVGs) to server restarts that had to happen. No exceptions. Not even for me. Administrators will do well to remember that this ties in with the idea that your players are not extensions of yourself. I don't need to kick players to make room for myself, or to interact with my players. RCon is for that. If I want to play, I can wait in line like everybody else to take my turn. No. Exceptions. That's it. Five basic points for building a rapport with your players. Good service and good support isn't about delivering the best product possible. Anybody can have a fast upstream and enough cores to run a four-year-old game.Good service and good support are about being there for people when things go wrong. Anybody can do something right. It's about being there to pick up the pieces when it doesn't.

Mojo (DayZ) 66 Posted May 14, 2012 Admin confirm on that. I RDP'd in and force-crashed the server as fast as I could, unfortunately when it came back up we discovered it wasn't nearly fast enough.
shwat 3 Posted May 14, 2012 Here's hoping rocket is feeling generous today. Getting shat on by a kid that downloaded a script is a shitty way to end the day (and like 50+ hours on a single life).

Play it, enjoy it, come back soon.Witty admin commentary is a complimentary service![/quote']Well, technically, it was a single setback that lasted for an overly long duration because instead of fixing it I would come back, see it, and go off on another swearing tirade. I did take several breaks to explain to my wife why I was frustrated. When she stopped listening, I explained the problem to my dog. It turns out that so long as I bribe my dog with food, she is far better listener than my wife. When I stopped bribing her with food, she stopped listening. So I went on TeamSpeak and repeated myself a little there.Eventually I got around to fixing the problem. shwat 3 Posted May 24, 2012 Bad at administrating indeed. :( Can't even keep your dog in line. How are you supposed to run a 50-man server? The rest of you need to play on said server and become little sunshines. It's the only damn way you're going to become one.
