is a server allowed blocking country IPs?

Recommended Posts

since the beginning of this mod, a Thai dayz server is blocking IPs. I asked the admin (arma admin), they said their server are blocking certain ips/country. either that or the server that is hosting not allowing certain country.

my question is, are these allowed? since from where i'm at, the only server dayz that have ping lower then 200 are only two. one of them is "Thailand 1" dayz server.

I wish i could play on their machine since they are the lowest ping for me.

Some countries block IPs independant of the users. Your connection might not even be getting to their server before being blocked. That said I have no problem with banning IPs specific to a area of the world if it improves performance for "local" players.

Unless it's a law based restriction I don't believe it is allowed.

Blocking IP's through a firewall of some sort would have nothing to do with DayZ. Now wouldn't it? It would just be blocking a specific IP/Range from connecting to your dedi/box/server('s). Now if you banned them in-game? Different story.

Would not preventing certain countries joining create a similar system to banning people for talking other languages, which rocket said was not allowed? It allows you to veto certain nationalities from joining your server.

Unless it's a law-based restriction, I don't think blocking by IP should be allowed. Restrict it based on latency, sure, but don't just block entire IP ranges.
