What upgrade should i get to play this game.

Recommended Posts

Okay, i already typed out a few paragraphs once, hit back by mistake, and dont feel like doing it again so I'll list important stuff

-I cannot get more RAM, i have 2G, and a 32 bit system. As far as i know it wont detect more

-Whole new PC is NOT an option, so don't say it

-I'm no computer genius, so if you ask for more specs, please tell me how to find them as well

Specs:

Windows Vista 32-bit Service Pack 2

Intel® Pentium® Dual CPU E2200 @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz

2GB of RAM

Nvidia Geforce 8400

Thanks in advance for the help

A new vid card with plenty of vid memory would be the best bet; would help you play other games too. Arma is tough on the processor as well, so if you can get an updated processor (preferably quad core) do that as well but do be aware that a new processor most likely will require a new motherboard which will cost more.

dude, I thought my system was bad... You're going to have to buy a new computer to keep up... Its not an option but its the only solution..

My computer running this game has problems and i've got a 2.8ghz overclocked to 3.0ghz dual core, 4gb ddr2 ram, 9800GTX+ video card, 850w PS. You dont have much of a choice..

Not everything is possible.. you'll have to upgrade everything to make it run this game.. or find a used system for cheap thats got better than what i've listed for my computer.

All of which can be done for $700+/- building your own PC from newegg with a 3.4ghz quad core, 8gb 1600mhz memory, 500gb HD and, including a decent $200 video card.

If you want me to personally build you a PC to your budget, send me a PM. I have fun building systems.

yeah you'd probably be better off just getting a new computer, one that is 64bit, has at least 4gb of ram and a dx11 gfx card, even then nothing is future proof. but the more cores you get in your processor the longer it will probably last and the less of a bottleneck you'll have.

i think my rig is about 4 years old now i bought it 3.5 years ago and i can only run arma 2 in med while attaining a frame rate around 25-30. i've not found a game it won't run yet though. but even my one is getting to the stage where i'm going to need to replace the processor and gfx card if i want to play anything with a bit of detail which means the psu needs replacing as well, eventually you end up replacing so much you might as well just replace the whole thing.

I custom built my rig for around £600/$800 a year back.

Runs like a dream and serves me well.

If you're prepared to spend a few hours terrified but excited and sweating profusely, custom built rigs are VERY cost effective.

Arma IIs recommended system requirements I think say a 8800gt

you can find them on ebay for like $20

Here is a good auction ending in 10 hours:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/geforce-8800gt-/200773582561?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item2ebf09bee1#ht_500wt_1413

you WILL have to play on minimum settings

p.s. This Forum has some very unhelpful pretentious trolls on here.

I hope i didn't sound pretentious i was honestly trying to give advice, my system has an AMD Phenom II x2 545 3.0ghz 4gb ddr2 ram and a Radeon 4650hd 1gb, its completely budget (i paid about £500 3 years ago so now its probably worth 100) but its newer than arma 2 itself, still only just about runs the game in what i consider a reasonable playable frame rate. but like i said even i need to upgrade soon if i want to play any games with any sort of detail.

basically just buying individual parts is never going to pay off because eventually you will need to replace it all due to compatibility issues, just throwing any old parts into a case won't work. and if you want your system to play more than just arma 2, then a better investment strategy is advised. i've had a good few years out of my rig so im going to have the same fun with either replacing parts or just buying a whole new tower.

You will also need a brain, some patience, a working microphone and, for nighttime play, a metaphorical pair of balls (not to suggest you don't already) :)

PS. Buying the cheapest, oldest graphics card you can get way with (8800GT) is a false economy IMO. You will have to ditch it within 6 months.

@Phill

I didnt really think you were being pretentious It was more of a warning for an obviously new person.

I was very frustrated earlier because I was struggling to get 1.7.1.1 to work properly and then I was having all sorts of Loot issues.

to exacerbate this frustration many of the threads I read were full of people basically saying "get over it" and led me to saying that Troll comment.

@mandrake

I normally agree, However in this situation,

Play DayZ for 6 months vs eat a large pizza for 20 minutes (assuming $20 pizza)

I can think of much worse ways to spend $20 lol

Okay thanks for the info everyone. Guess I'll have to wait and hope I get a new PC for Christmas or something. I know my PC sucks, just can't afford a new one at the moment.

Wow, an E2200 huh? Umm...Well, if you can't get a new machine then I'm not really sure what to say. A newer videocard would help (a 6870 can be picked up for about $140) but it will be waiting on CPU cycles and will be bottlenecked horribly.
