1.7.1 was hard, but playable...

Recommended Posts

So here's a story about how a noob (I had two lives before 1.7.1 came out) successfully evaded zombies and found a rifle...and then died to server glitches.

So I somehow, I'm not really sure, it was pretty hard, ran all the way through Electro on my first life without a weapon without attracting any zombies on the 1.7.1 patch (PRE 1.7.1.1 GUYS!) and made my way north, found a DMR, made my way back south and succeeded in logging out without dying around 6am yesterday.

Today I met a friend, he had a bit of a zombie problem north of electro though so he ended up either dying or running away, I'm not sure...anyways so I ran off north, saw a nice looking babe on a sign, saw another sign with some sunflowers etc...found a barn, was travelling towards the northeast and ended up having my server crash.

No big deal right, just rejoin another server?

SO I log in, and guess what? I'm back where i was when I had logged out the previous day, at 6am. I had lost 6 hours of gameplay. But to top it off I was knocked out and bleeding profusely for no reason.

Long story short I died, respawned, and now I have a flashlight and some bandages and I hate my life.

Oh yeah, and even better, when I did respawn I was close to my body so I figure I'll run over there right? I run over there and the server I'm on crashes.

How freaking great.

SO yeah guys, even though 1.7.1 was impossible to play I managed to have a pretty decent life (couldn't find any food though) and died with a DMR 5 mags a makarov I found in a fire station (no ammo) and about 8 steaks on my body....which were claimed by server glitches.

What a joke.

I've experienced the same problem with some servers. It happened to me a couple times on NYC8. I don't believe ANY update is responsible for this glitch since this only happens very rarely on a few servers. My guess: it has something to do with the auto-save timer (which saves your progress every few seconds) or perhaps the server is not relaying your progress to the central servers. This issue, for the time it lasts, affects EVERYONE'S progress on the server.

Well yeah, but 6 hours is a lot of gameplay to lose. I'll just have to make an effort to switch servers every once in a while so my character gets saved.

Back to cross-country running 2012

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

DO NOT BECOME ATTACHED TO ANYTHING IN YOUR INVENTORY. Just die, respawn, wherever that may be and continue surviving despite any setbacks.

It is an alpha mod. Bugs gonna bug.

My suggestion: if you can remember which server(s) it happened on, don't play on them anymore. Also, it isn't necessary to frequently hop servers to ensure it saves. You can test this for yourself using the same server. Just disconnect to the player-list and click "join". Your progress is stored on the central servers, so by disconnecting, you will be receiving your latest progress on-file.

Generally, however, this is not a problem if you play on reliable servers. Coming from someone whose played on close to every server in DayZ, I'd say that the Dallas servers are the most reliable and I've never had an issue with them. Only negative thing I would say is that they rarely pre-warn before a server reset.

The only problem is that (well, before 1.7.1.2) it was completely dark whenever I played. Now at least I can still play when it's dark out in the US, since I usually am on late at night.

This is the only correct response, in my opinion.

Still not as sad as being killed while desynced.

- Guy is stalking you, you don't know it.

- Desync happens. On your end, you're still happily looting a town. Server-side, you're standing still.

- Guy shoots your 'desync ghost'.

- Server registers the gunshots as fatal wounds to you.

- Connection re-established, you die. No way of seeing it coming, no way to retaliate, nothing. Just like that, you die.
