How to Evade a Zombie While Unarmed (1.7.1.1)

Recommended Posts

Going to be trying this tonight. I am all about conserving ammo and not giving away my position to other players or zombies. Thanks for posting this!

Hilarious!

But you should not have posted this.

Will undoubtedly be "hot-fixed" out now shortly... then reverted. Then fixed again. And after that maybe Mr. zombie will get a chainsaw or something to properly deal with such situations.

Wait. What was the topic again?

Well... I want to say that this is easy to do but it only works well with one zombie, and specific trees. You also have to dance like a stripper sometimes to get him stayed on the other side of the tree.

It CAN be difficult, and it's definitely not something that breaks the game. So hopefully rocket will grant us this ability to evade. :3

So can I run through a whole town, get the zeds chasing me and then run through a building and go out the other side and now have the town to myself to explore as I like?

BTW hilarious video lol :)

Seems like it is working as intended - since a zombie will be at your heels the entire time I don't see any other way of breaking their line of sight, aside from doing the indoor bait and switch.

There certainly is a learning curve to the new zed aggro, and Gusmanak's video is one more option to add to the toolkit.

I spent most of my playtime around Kamenka and one of the tricks I learned, as other posters have noted, is kiting zeds to buildings with multiple entrances, and then slinking out another exit. I had a harder time losing them in the wilds, and typically had to rely on breaking LOS by slowing their ascent on a hill.

I noticed two things I wanted to bring up, both related to dealing with hordes. The first is that by normally ducking and weaving, it seems like the number of pursuing zeds quickly fell off from the chase. Secondly, while the new attack range allows them to more reliably hit you if you're roadie running, that still seems to be the best stance in order to not aggravate more zeds while you're fleeing.

Thanks for the video tip, Gusmanak!

I actually just had an experience where two zombies were after me through the woods. I did nothing but crouch-run through and around random trees and in no time both of them had lost me.

I think it's a lot easier than I originally thought.

Is it just me or has the newest update (the one with 4 on the end) made it so you can't do this trick anymore? Or at least it seems a lot harder now.. It would have been good to keep being able to do this too since its a lot easier to aggro zeds now it seems :/

I was told that you can't anymore... Just because crawling makes the zombies head you somehow. :-/

The impression I have is that the hotfixes have inadvertently buffed zombie detection (or nerfed players stealth abilities).

While playing yesterday, I found that all movement was generating much more sound. Somewhere between 2-4 bars where such movement normally capped out at 2.

Additionally, I noticed this last night, a friend was raiding a deer stand and I was providing cover. Once he climbed down, he pulled three zombies in the area. All three of these zombies I had already noticed, and they were well beyond a threatening range.

The tweet relating the dev's intention to change this-

I imagine this is aggravating breaking LOS. A player will succeed at breaking a zed's LOS, but the amount of noise being generated as such a close range will on reaggro it.

With taht being said, it seems like they're making intentional adjustments to this and similar tactics anyway. They patched in Zed's searching the last known location, so we will see how that pans out.
