Multiple people killed by an as50 to the head in different locations in a short space of time.

Hey everyone, first post.

Me and my friend were playing as Hero characters for almost 2 full weeks. We were on about day 13 and we decided to check out NEAF. The server had only 5 people online: me, my friend and 3 others. Those 3 others were down in Elektro. I raided the airfield and found an M9 and some other cool junk. I was recklessly searching as I knew the only possible threats were 10000m+ away. I saw a HUEY and started walking up to it then suddenly heard the crack of a sniper. DMR? I'm not too sure of the sounds. I run for the trees and try to scope the hills. At this point, my friend comes online and I sum up my situation for him. He starts driving to my rescue but by the time he's in the game, I got shot in the head and die instantly (despite being hidden from the hills I thought the shot came from).

So I'm wondering, how?! I was the only person in that area and the only threats were miles away. Unless those guys in Elektro are extreme snipers with deadly accuracy, I don't know how I died. Is there a hack that removes your name from the player list so people can stalk servers without anyone knowing they're even there?

I just so happened to be filming when this all went down, so here's the video:

(again, excuse my recklessness but I was certain there was no threat to be worried about)

Maybe you guys can clarify if this was the work of a hacker, or my paranoia. My friend died shorty after whilst heading to NEAF and he said in school the next morning that he was very well hidden under cover in a blind spot. He also died with one shot to the head.

Did we both just lose 2 weeks worth of work to some hackers or were we just finally defeated?

How do you know the other "3" were in Elektro? I put the 3 in inverted commas as I noticed that at timestamp 4.52 you check the player list and there are SIX people on the server:

I just said 5 from the top of my head. I'm trying to remember it from last night and I didn't notice the player list in the video.

I believe they were in Elektro as they were often talking about what they were doing. The two groups of two joined up and spoke about raiding the hospital and such. They could have just said all of that to trick us, but it was a long trick as they were talking about it for at least 30 mins.

EDIT: To clarify, the bullet came from your right at 2:58, and you ran to your left and, to my understanding, you thought it came from the left. I don't know what killed you at the end because I hear no gunshots. I hear a sound which sounds a bit like a revolver or some other handgun, but I am not sure. You would see them getting close to you to kill you with a handgun, wouldn't you? It could have been hackers, but then again doesn't have to be. Strange things do happen in DayZ and you have to be very careful. Otherwise, I don't really know why anybody would go to NEAF. Sure, it may be worth checking out, but that's just rotten luck. Don't buy any lottery tickets for some time. Out of 6 people on the server, yourself included, one happens to be somewhere where people rarely venture to, with you.

There was some very suspicious activity on Dart (which I have access to) and in the server admin tools (which I don't). Upon looking to see if the reports were right about him being in one place then another too fast (teleporters don't always get flagged), our server admin could not find him on the map AT ALL. He left not long after that and we were scratching our heads not know for sure if he was doing something wrong. We don't ban unless we witness it or have the data to back it up. I'm VERY curious about this. There is a new round of scripts released recently, if you can believe ingame chatter. I'm tending to believe it as this isn't the only strange thing we've had happen. I hope this thread gets the attention of someone in the know.

You mean me and my friend were possibly victim to a new hack? Ugh. We lost a chopper, 2 UAZ's, a Ural and an ATV along with an as50, SAW, ak KOBRA and a tonne of other weapons stashed with 50+ blood bags and morphine. I'd be totally ok with losing all of that due to a sniper being skilled because that's MY fault I died. However, if I lost all of this to some hacker that's 2 weeks of work lost in 1 bullet. I don't want to be angry because I know you can't be attached to these kind of things, but god damn I'm frustrated about it :/

Doesn't look dodgy to me. Shooter was NW imo far away enough to hear sound after the shot and not too far as it would be impossible to see because of the fog.

PS it's always a really bad idea to start to alt-tabbing or whatever when you are in a situation like that. You can get circled around and ambushed and die like a fool.

PS2 I've seen people using side chat for far more crazy stuff than making other players believe they're at a location they really aren't.

I feel like I am missing something here. How did the sniper in the video cause you to lose all that? You certainly weren't carrying anything like that and I presume you didn't drive 2 UAZs, a Ural and an ATV up to the NEAF just to loot. I fail to see the connection.

I have watched the video closely several times now but can see no signs of foul play. No offence intended but it seems to me like you are determined to believe it was a hacker.

Based on the video evidence alone my money would be on bens as the killer. I know in your previous post that you said that "Bens was alone, but he was complaining about Cherno." but I have my doubts. He types in chat twice in that video and on both occasions it is straight after you "talk" to the bandit. On the first occasion he asks if anyone needs blood, a nicely friendly comment to throw you off scent. Then later when you ask "Who is at NEAF" he asks for blood to be brought to the power plant at N. Elektro (I thought he was in Cherno?) but either way he is the only one who responded and he did so by telling you he was nowhere near NEAF.

Personally I honestly think you just got played.

Listening to it in my headset I am fairly sure that a split second after he has died I can hear the metallic "clink" sound of an AS.50 despite the fact that the first shot was a DMR round (so DMR or M14 AIM). Also why do you think the first shot came from the right? The crack as the bullet breaks the sound barrier is right of him but when the sound of the shot reaches him it definitely sounds like it came from his left to me.

EDIT: Listened to it several times now and yes, definitely an AS.50 shot right at the end of the video. With this being the case it also calls into question the OP's perception that he (and later his friend) were killed with a single shot to the head. The AS.50 is a one shot kill wherever it hits, it doesn't require a headshot at all.

Well if he's not the bandit, he must have done something wrong at some time. Everyone has done something bad in DayZ at least once. No one has their hands clean. Whatever he did, be it killing me and my friend or some other cause, I'll get him eventually. Maybe make him trust me with my hero skin, although I'd feel like a dick for doing that. Either way, Bens will be dead.

The shot was definitely in my left ear. Until, that is, I realised I had had my headset on the wrong way round. Oops. Either way, certainly nothing to suggest foul play.

The AS.50 sound is there, it is almost but not quite concurrent with his "death groan".

Important update!!!

I crashed my car in Polina and broke 2 wheels and the engine. After finding a wheel, a friend showed up to fix the rest. Just as we met at the car my game crashed. I logged back in only to get killed by someone upon spawn and of course, got accused of combat logging and called a 'faggot' etc etc. I then spawned in the debug plains. Fuck. My friend that fixed my car then got shot in the head by an as50 and died instantly. After walking for a few minutes I crashed again. Upon rejoining I was in Kamenka. I walked for a while to suicide and then BAM, shot in the head by an as50 whilst running at full pelt along the coast of Kamenka. Then, another guy on the server gets killed and I ask "shot in the head by an as50?" and he says "yup". I ask where he is and he says he's at NWAF. This sniper has EXTREMELY good aim. I then went to commit suicide (after another Kamenka spawn) only to be met with a message displaying "Fok off an dont dustirb rustlr" and I couldn't press esc or anything. Was just forced to alt+f4. I hear my character die before then anyways.

So, it seems this instant death by a sniper shot to the head is getting suspicious. Who's rustlr?

Any thoughts anyone?

The message at the end does indeed seem to indicate a hacker, I have seen this exact same message described elsewhere but I am struggling to locate it again. This does not, however, mean that the sniper with the As.50 is doing anything untoward.

The guy only said he was sniped. You added the AS.50 to the head part and the video does not show this being confirmed. Again, what is with the insistence that these are head shots? The AS.50 is a one-shot kill wherever it hits. It does not require a head shot.

You do not say how many people are currently on the server or indeed if any of them are the same people that were on the other day. Is it just a case that you will call hacks on anyone that snipes you?

Well my main reason for this hackusation is that it just seems fishy to me. If I remember rightly, there were only a few people online and none of them were the same people from the NEAF shootings. I think maybe one or two of those guys were the same, not sure. I just think that multiple people being sniped by an as50 in wildly different places in a small-ish time frame is suspicious. I see what you mean about the 'in the head' part, that may just be my misinterpretation. As to WHY, I assume it would be so people can't call hacks. If you die for no reason, just falling over dead, then people will call hacks. If you get shot by an as50 then people are more likely to just think they got unlucky.

I realize my evidence is low, but I'm not filming 100% of the time so I can't capture everything. If more evidence arises, I'll post it here.
