Ultimate Goal

Of all the zombie movie endings I've seen, the Dawn of the Dead remake did it best in my opinion. Even though they escaped and made it to an island...they still got fucked.

It would be most non-heinous if we had some goals to work towards. No end game objectives or anything, but something that would seem like you might "win".

The factions thread brings up a few interesting things that could be done. Say there is a scientist class. They have a lab, or better yet, have to put a lab together in an abandoned building. There, they do work to true to find a cure. Maybe add some exotic chemicals, small vials with random viruses/medications. So in the lab the scientist would work on combining these items until they found something that could be used as medicine for other survivors. Also, if being bitten was implemented in a way, where your character is slowly dying, if the scientist in a nearby town has a lab with a reversing agent, you could be saved.

This also adds a dynamic in which the scientists in the lab would rely on the survivors that are out gathering supplies. It would give them a goal as well. If the scientist needed more penicillin then it would be up to the bamfs to get the supplies.

Say someone elses goal is to escape the island. They would either need to be a pilot, or find a pilot. Then escort him around until you came to a plane or chopper that was still fixable. Well then you'd also need a mechanic. Skipping some of the details, once you get the aircraft in working order you could start rescuing other survivors. Or try to make a daring escape to...another island, or one of the small ones already in cherna. At which point I guess you could role play yourself as "winning".

Another I suggested in the "Radio Transmitter" thread, was using the Green Mountain radio tower. Maybe to call for help. Put some variables in so that when you broadcast you could potentially send the signal to the govt that "this island is overrun and we are screwed forever, send help" at which point a nuke is dropped on Chernarus.

Anways, sorry that is a long read. That's my couch full of change.

Personally, an end game would completely ruin it.

I think the end goal should be survival, and it should allow you to "recreate" a small civilization.

I kind of put my thoughts into the "Factions / Trading / Role Playing" thread.

An End Goal gets rid of the entire "Zombie RPG" feature of this game. Now what WOULD be interesting is if you flew so far or if you drove so far you could "drive" into another server that was another map.

But an end goal.... the zombie apocalypse doesn't end. You either keep surviving or you die.

That's pretty much how every zombie movie ends.

No, no, we're misunderstanding eachother here. I agree completely. That's why I mentioned the Dawn ending...where they were still having to survive at the end. It always keeps going. There is no actual end game.

What I'm saying is it would be cool to give people the glimmer of hope of finding a new life or civilization where everyone can live happily ever after. It'll never happen, but it gives players a goal to work towards like "alright!! we made it!! we escaped!!" but naturally you run out of gas and your still trapped.

ANALOGY: You're on a sinking boat in the middle of nowhere. You have to find the keys to open the box with the life vest. Whether or not you get the vest doesn't matter. You're still stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Well i see what he's saying, he's saying that we should be given a "purpose" to try to survive.

Personally, I'd like to see "player driven purpose"

Example: Someone manages to build a safe-haven boat island thing. (which should totally be a thing), invites people to boat on out to safe-haven boat island thing.

Again, you'd have to have acre and long range radios for this to work...

Or if there was an abandoned carrier that you could only reach via helicopter? eeeeey? Or small island free of zombies? You'd still have to return to get more food and supplies, but you could be free of people.

Something like that..

but player driven.

with acre.

Well, depends on what part of the idea you're talking about.

Technically, it already exists for me. My thought is if i can get a big enough group around me, my group will have no problem surviving the apocalypse.

I've even been daydreaming about a group big and powerful enough to secure an area as a zombie-free trade zone. Would be sweet if they could incorporate crafting barriers, barbwire and such.

Put SOMETHING in the basket to gain entry to the trade zone, PVP free zone, violators will be exterminated... or jailed? :P

I am still working on getting a drivable car going. 4 tires, engines, fuel tanks. It is damn hard as a lone wolf to get wheels. Maybe I should focus on a bicycle...or a new pair of Nikes.

one thought that myself and a few friends of mine have thought would be great is something like gang warfare so u set up a base and control it raiding towns and other "bases" for more or better supplies.

and in doing this u have other players either helping u (joining ur cause) of fighting against u

Building your own fort would be a good goal...the fort would be mad max-esque though.

First, finding a truck in Chernarus

Repairing truck to working order

Gathering lumber/scrap metal on truck

Once truck is full, can deploy in to a fort.

Itd be just like deploying a MHQ...and the server can limit forts by limiting the instances of a truck (like they limit helis)

I too also think there needs to be some sort of goal. The game world can continue, but yet for the player there still can be an end. I have come to the following scenario...

Problem: Survivor has collected sufficient weapons/ammo AND food supplies. What now? Where now? What is next?

Currently they just wander around until someone or something kills them. There is no direction.

Suggestions:

1. Players collect resources and contribute them to a server-wide goal: (both will require huge amounts of resources)

a. "build" a safe zone somewhere inland. Enough resources that it possibly takes weeks of work to complete. Survivors go out in populated places and collect uncommon item spawns.

b. transport vehicle (airport/cargo plane, dock/ship).

2. Survive X amount of "Dayz", recorded by playtime. Say 48 hours of playtime.

3. Non-combat rewards (title or skin, etc.) for contributing certain levels towards said goal.

Progress of contribution goals can and will be "wiped" after completion or shortly thereafter. This also can be a goal of bandits to raid or steal said resources.
