A well thought out end goal

Recommended Posts

I would like an end goal for DayZ. For many that goal is just to surivive, and they are content with it. But for others like myself, the ultimate goal is to survive long enough to find a means of escape. This should also be allowed but not be absolutely required or easy to complete. I've come up with a couple ideas, each of which should take a while to complete, possibly with multiple people. But not impossible.

Example 1: Find specific parts scattered throughout the server to aid in the repair and operation of a locomotive. Possible parts: Find an operation manual, find and repair broken train parts, find replacement rails for broken track, have a compass, have a map.

Example 2: Find specific parts scattered throughout the server to aid in the repair and operation of a ship. Possible parts: Find a hull patch to repair port damage, find a replacement right engine, find fuel, have a compass, have a map.

It would take some time to come up with a proper reward for all this work. Something that isn't an unfair advantage over other players, but also cool enough to want to pursue. I was thinking the ability to select one special alternate outfit for each time you survive in this manner. Alternate outfits could be stuff like an engineers suit, a fishermens clothes, a SWAT uniform, and a firemans outfit. Basically clothes that are different than the defaults but also realistic for the environment of the game.

As I stated, this would be an OPTION for those who would like to escape. Not something that's required at all. You could still play the game just like you always have and try to survive as long as possible, or you could try to escape. The choice would still be up to you and your friends.

(I know this is a games forum but please only constructive criticism)

The fact that there is no 'end goal', no way to 'win', is pretty much the entire purpose of DayZ.

Still, an achievement based set of clothing would be nice. The 3 skins are getting kind of dull, and are losing their beautiful *sparkle*. We could really use more personalized customization.

Personally, I like how there is no end.

The fact that it seems like a life simulation is good, as the goal is to survive.

Survival in other games seems useless, but since this is one that plonks you into a particular situation where survival is everything, it seems more of an unreachable goal.

There is no end. You live the goal, because the goal is to live.

ITS BEAUTIFUL! SUCH MODERNIZATION! It's light! Fabulous! Cool! and very "Hey, he doesn't seem like someone that'd shoot me in the face on sight!" Where does on acquire such beauty that at least comes in the general spectrum of my own!?

Seriously, me wantz.

Well maybe it's just me. But every time I work hard to get vehicles and spend hours getting good gear only to get sniped by a cheap player, it's a reason to quit playing. Some eventual reward or achievement or anything worth striving for would help ease the frustration. Dare I suggest even servers where player vs player killing is not possible? These are things that would broaden the appeal of DayZ to a wider audience. In a standalone release, DayZ "classic" rules could be like playing as the game is now. But servers could also choose to disallow player killing and allow an end game for the more casual audience. Widen the appeal in this way, and DayZ makes more money.

There are PVE servers, mate. Many of them as far as I remember. I remember a coop server of dayz+ where I basically had to drive and find survivors to bring back to camp. Eventually, I got too good and it lagged so hard with the 62/64 players in one camp. So yes, there are coop servers, you just gotta look for em.

I still like the potential of extra clothing for specific achievements. I should get a custom one for being so darn beautiful. Like that one he linked. That should be exclusively mine...

In the standalone you'll just find clothing as you would any other loot. I guess stuff like that in residential areas and more military-esque camo stuff in military bases.

Really though, I wanna know where that guy shops...

My profile pic shows what I did IRL when I saw that skin lol. I am hoping in future updates, mayhaps they will include that, and maybe increase clothing drops. There are like 1 million survivors running around, and they all look like noobies, new clothing would be fantastic.

Well, it was emotional rollercoaster reading your suggestion.

At first I thought, end goal, no way.

Then I read about scavenging for a locomotive and just thought: LOCOMOTIVES!!!! (By the way. I like trains.)

My next thought was how everyone would have to start fresh, using that locomotive and effectively losing all gear, so it would be costly to get a new skin and that's quite cool. But they just pitch some tent and get their valuables back right afterwards.

But then I realised the big bummer. It's a skin. We already have different skins. Like hero skins and bandit skins. And it sucks. If you wear something really cool and I want to wear the same, I kill you. Well not personally, because I am a nice guy. But if I kill you in self defense or because you startled me or some other mistake or if I just find your body with a sweet, sweet skin, I just really don't get why I shouldn't be able to take it from you. If I can't steal it, it makes no sense. Hate that with bandits and so. But if I can steal it, it makes no sense to earn it on my own.

So basically I don't like your idea. Sorry pal. And it's not only the wrong reward. I also think some way of ending it alive would violate the spirit of DayZ.

Still, one has to remember that customization would help, considering everyone is just a regular survivor skin. I guess some clothes would make you a bigger target, but mostly military grades. I doubt anyone would loot the guy in a rainbow jumpsuit, too easy to see.

Unless its for gits and shiggles.
