Map grid squares?

Haven't noticed a scale on the map but i'd guess big squares = 1km, small squares = 100m.

Is that correct?

That's exactly right. When your coords are 2x2, each square is 1km x 1km, and when your coords are 3x3, each square is 100m x 100m
