Crap FPS? Slow Game? Want more out of Dayz? Read This!

Recommended Posts

Basically untill standalone comes out this has been a perma fix for the time being. If you are "lagging"aka Bottle-necking or not getting the FPS you know you deserve. It's simple. Just use a ram-disk. I've updated the video to meet the standards of the new maps, and new techniques. Please follow this guide to the letter.

Honestly, RAMDisk doesn't do a whole lot unless...

a. You're playing on a laptop or for some other reason have a 5400RPM HDD.

b. You have about 20Gb RAM to spare and want to install ArmA 2:CO AND DayZ to it.

c. You're skipping frames. RAMDisk will probably give you slightly better stability.

Please don't talk about something if you have no idea what your talking about. This is for people who have less than 6 gb of RAM on their pc's... doesn't matter if its a labtop *notebook* or 20 GB of RAM. With that said, if you have 20 GB of RAM and your graphics suck... you got screwed over. All these ramdisk videos i keep posting are for new players and people who don't know much about arma or pc's in general. For you to be rude and troll the forums is just nonsense. I take the time out of my day to create this video and many others related to the same game, just to help others and all you can do is criticize me. You should feel ashamed of yourself's

My point was that installing only DayZ mod to your RAM when ArmA 2 and OA are still on a regular HDD has little to no effect. Way over your head, apparently. u,u

Just another post attempt to try and 'increase' FPS... it's all phony. You'll get little to no increase in fps... It's obvious that people who experience lag don't have 6gb of ram otherwise they wouldn't lag... correct?

Ramdisk never worked for me. check out a thing called ultimate defrag that lets you install the game on a secured high performance zone of HDD, it reduced freezes and fps drops nicely on my old laptop.

not correct. There's some tweaks for Arma2 OA around that will improve A LOT the performance you get out of the game, whether you have a high end computer or a 4 year old laptop.

EDIT : not sure if I made my point clear, but there are many people around here with high end computers who tend to think the game should runs smoothly because they can run BF3 or crysis on ultra high. The truth is arma 2 engine is far more dependent on your HDD, ram and CPU than most games, and if one of those fails, then no matter how good is your triple sli nvidia card, the game will freeze and fps might drop in cities.

On the other hand, if you know the limits of your hardware and what is the cause of the performance issues, then it can be solved with tweaks, system cleaning tools, or utilities like game booster.

I'm going to have to disagree. Not only do I not have the micro hangs/stuttering that plagued my early DayZ gaming, using a RAMDisk means that my 7,200RPM (2MB L1 Cache) isn't rattling like 2 amorous skeletons as the ARMA 2 engine streams textures from the @DayZ folder.

If you read my above post I did say that it will help with stability and skipping frames. It will not increase your FPS overall though. :)

See, my problem with Dayz is that no matter what I set my settings to, ultra high, or lowest of the low, it has no effect on my fps. My fps seems to be always stopped from going above around 30 by something. No server have I been on will let me get 60 fps with lowest of the low settings.

16 gb ram, 660 TI, 3.2 quad processor, and an SSD which I run dayz off of. I have also tried using various ram disk programs. None of the changes I make effect my fps at all. When I watch for example frankie's videos and hes getting a solid 60 fps I swear its some voodoo magic. I have probably spent 100 hours just trying to fix this problem. So I've given up at this point, and just pegged the servers for it(because it WILL get lower for different servers, just really never higher than 30, in any fucking area.) Also, in single player I have no fps problems at all.

Lol, you have go to be kidding me right? what the fuck do you think the -nosplash -winxp -maxmem 2047 -world=empty -dualcore do? lol its really fucking funny how people talk before they have any insight into what they are talking about. why don't you "Google" those commands and see what they do... seeing how i'm most defiantly sure you Google just about any bit of information. God for bid you would even do a little bit research before you open your mouth. here is a link, you can educate yourself about arma 2 and dayz.

From what I find overclocking your CPU and max frames ahead are thr biggest contributors, I went from high details, normal antialiasing, normal shadows, no FXAA, 500 visibility to the VERY MAX for everything (including 1800 visibility which is the max that DayZ does) just by overclocking my CPU to 4.4GHZ and overclocking my 7850 to 1000/1400.

Okay, just change the subject completely then. We were talking about RAMDisk... :S

And half of those only affect the main menu, lol.

i change the subject? i just pointed out that those commands are important. and for your half remark there is 8 commands lines all together. Please enlighten me, how is 2 out of 6 considered half? go back to school. I've been playing arma since the first one came out, you probably started last year being a dayz parasite. don't lecture me, i know armas engine inside and out. you couldn't even scratch the surface. without arma there is no dayz. without dayz there is arma. seeing how everything dayz runs on, guns, skins, environment, loot all from arma, yet using arma commands with a ramdisk doesn't help at all? look at my video's bud. over 3 thousand people would disagree with you.hum whos gonna influence my opinion, a dayz form moderator who doesn't know crap about arma, or 3 thousand people? 75% of people on this entire forum started playing last year. do not preach to me one what makes arma 2 and dayz run faster... fing troll

talk all the crap you want. i do not give a shit. wanna learn something about computers. Example arma if i take water.pbo roads.pbo Plants2.pbo all the items and objects that the game sees the most of, if you stuck those files inside a ramdisk then use a symbolic link to trick the computer in thinking the files are inside the arma 2 folder even though a 298,000kb files is turned into 1kb so insted of your computer's HDD trying to process that, wouldn't it make more sense just to stick the huge files inside a ramdisk to run it off ram? so your computer can stop processing such a huge load? and work on the smaller load? can you wrap your head around that?
