Getting into the swing of things...

Recommended Posts

I have only had this mod for the past few days and I've really gotten into it. My current strategy is to head to Elektro and loot the first Firestation, then the supermarket, then the office and finally the last Firestation and head up the hill to the woods from here.

I realise now after 2 days playing that Chern and Elektro are just deathmatch towns. The real challenge is heading into the wilderness to the untold riches up North.

----------------------------------------------------------

Today I spawn and make my way to the firestation at Elektro. Someone has wired the stairs so I couldn't get up. At the supermarket I find a Makarov, some other bits but most importantly MATCHES!

At the office I grabbed a Enfield plus a bunch of other stuff. The final firestation was empty! I headed into the hills and looked over Elektro for any survivors. I heard a vehicle and quickly went prone. A guy on a dirt bike flys by down the hill. He didn't see me and I watch with my binoculars as he heads off towards Chern.

I have around 5K blood and only 1 can of coke and 1 can of beans. I decided to head north (I have a compass) in the hopes of some animals and a quiet town I can loot for some essentials.

I find a tent and check it, empty. I kill and gut a sheep but unfortunately something was bugged and I couldn't make a fireplace to cook. It kept saying I had made one but nothing was there. I tried multiple times on flat surfaces and it didn't work!

I work my way through the forest until I found a barn. It has around 7 zombies inside (bug?) but I decide I really need some food/drink and other bits. Who knows when I will next see any buildings.

I take aim and end up killing about 10 zombies with my enfield. I take everything I can and move on.

I find myself at Staroye. A zombie sees me and I lead him away into the woods to kill. My Enfield attracts a HUGE horde of zombies from the town and I run to the forest. I figure I can take them all out.

I didn't realise how slow the Enfield fire and before I knew I had killed 20 and now had a broken bone. They killed and ate me.

-----------------------------------------------------

This game is buggy as hell but it's still very fun. The shooting mechanics are horribly clunky and the zombies are too responsive in 1.7.1.

I've had my run-ins with bandits and also been one myself. I killed a guy from the top of a firestation. I could barely make him out on another roof and I wanted to see if I could hit him with my enfield. I could.

I have also had some friendly encounters. When I first spawned with no weapons, a guy with a mic came up behind me. He told me to follow him and he found me a Winchester. I said thanks and we went out separate ways.

Another time I found a DMR and AK in a firestation. I called out if anyone wanted the AK and a guy said he did. I climbed to the top and saw him running across the field with zombies in tow. I then sniped them and he safely made it to the building. He told me of DMR mags elsewhere, I thanked him and left.

----------------------------------------------------------

Thoughts from a 2 day newbie:

- Enfield sound radius is huge. Needs a fix.

- Zombies should be 1.7.0 responsive (crawling 100% is boring)

- Zombies need their running pattern fixed.

- Zombies shouldn't be able to attack/see through walls.

- Zombies shouldn't be able to open doors or glitch through them.

- The shooting mechanics are very clunky. Same with AMRA2?

- Starting with no equipment is fine.

- SIDE CHAT HAS TO STAY!!

- Inventory system is a bit fiddly

- Bandits aren't as bad as people make out.

Overall I think there needs to be a good balance between realism and playability. Side chat isn't realistic (radios?) but it enabled me to work together with other solo players.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Probably the best mod I have ever played.
