Sound issues

I have 5.1 surround sound system and when zombies are behind me or even if people try to talk to me, I can't hear them. Same with other games but I need to hear when people try to talk to me from behind, can anyone help? I heard about setting speakers to stereo but then what's the point of having 5.1? Any help would be great!

Not sure about this but is Arma even capable of 5.1 surround? most games arn't from what I have heard except for a few like crysis and such..

Let me know what you find though I would be curious to set this up if it is not the case.
