Player reset?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, today I connected to a server and found the new char selection screen. At first I thought it was a private hive server, but then tried out a couple for servers that I know are public hive and still was a fresh respawn. Needless to say, I was well alive when I disconnected yesterday.

I did do something out of the usual in the mean while:

- yesterday I applied the last patch for the beta for Arma II OA (build 100409)

- (i'm pretty sure I played a bit in this setup)

- played on a server with apparently very few zombies and no loot, decided to log out, found a nice place and disconnected

- decided to try out the Wasteland mission (first time, on my todo list for a while)

- ran Arma II OA beta via steam (I usually use DayzCommander for DayZ) - my bad, I should have used the plain Arma II

- steam 'updated' it, even if automatic updates are off :(

- realized it was launching DayZ nontheless, despite carefully checking out launching option both in steam, desktop shortcuts, executables (all of exe the related to Arma II under the steam installation folder)

- the standard (non beta) Arma II OA did the same

- ran steam as admin (to no avail)

- disabled the mod from inside the game, restarted the game and the mod was gone

- finally played a bit with the wasteland mission

- i did die while playing wasteland (I seriously doubt that's related, but i've written it down anyway)

Today I ran DayZcommander as usual.

Has anything of the above possibly caused my DayZ character to reset? Is it possibile that somehow DayZ forgot who I am, and made me start over? And mostly, is there any chance to revert back to the old character (which I'm pretty sure is still crouching in that bush)?

TIA

FYI, it happened again.

First I tried to go back to a windows restore point previous to the upgrades. But my char was still brand new. I moved around a bit. I disconnected.

Later on, I connected again to different server. I found myself in a town, with flames all around. I mean, the ground seeded to be on fire. This had happened to me before, but I simply forgot about that. Again, I went "oh well, another broken server" and moved on to the next, not really paying much attention to it. Guess what? I found me back on the beach, brand new char (ok, no big loss, the former one had only an axe). Then I realized that maybe that broken server might have killed my char.

So, what I'm trying to do now is to find that server again. Actually I thought I knew which server was the broken one but apparently I'm wrong, I've connected to it and it's just a private hive one (I won't name it here since I have no proof it was the broken one). I'm trying out some other servers, just to make sure. So far all look fine, tho. Maybe the server reset to a saner state meanwhile.

Now I'm just curious, has this ever happened to anyone of you?
