Could this get cleared up?

Recommended Posts

Facts:
  • The game will be released in an Alpha build for a low price point.
  • DayZ will be available on Steam.
  • Rocket is project lead for DayZ at Bohemia Interactive.
  • DayZ is set to follow the Minecraft pricing and development model.
  • There will be continued support for DayZMOD alongside DayZ game.
  • Running on "Arma 2.5" engine. Will include an updated Chernarus map.
  • DayZ Standalone will be released on Steam

Release date: Unknown

Price: ~$24 (USD)

Minimum Requirements: Same as Arma 2 for the time-being

So, Griff mentioned that he had updated the "SA Release date" thread with the specs requirements. Now, by saying Arma 2 does he actually MEAN Arma 2 or Arma 2: CO?

Now I know some people may find this to be a silly question, but in my case it's not. For some reason I can run Arma 2 fine, but CO makes my PC lag a bit. So yeah. If anyone could clear this up, that'd be great :)

He means that it's same as the DayZ Arma II:CO release.

There was an interview with Matt Lightfoot the production assistant and he stated that the requirements were to be the same as they are currently.

The game itself is a lot lighter than the mod but they are using the freed-up resources to add a lot more features to the game and balance it back out to what it is now.

Also the Standalone will be optimized better than the mod, so you should see an overall performance increase when playing the game too!

If I'm correct in my assumption, the entire point of the term 'standalone' in DayZ is because it will.. stand alone apart from Arma. The only thing that DayZ will be using is the engine, which is completely seperate from the game itself and is similar to comparing Batman Arkham City to Borderlands, which both use the Unreal 3 engine but looks, feels and plays completely different from one another - hence why Rocket coined the term Arma 2.5 engine.

TLDR: It will not matter if you can't run one or another, because it will be a different game all together.
