How to keep a vehicle

Thought I'd post this just here cause I wasn't sure where else to post it. How do I keep a vehicle in DayZ? Like do I log out while I'm in the car or near the car? Will it be affected by server restarts?

go far in the map and hide it...collect spare parts on way and dont leave valuables in there

I've moved the vehicle, but I'm wondering if it'll be were I left it (granted that another player doesn't find it) even if there's a server reset?
