Kommissar Pinky 11 Posted June 17, 2012 As an Alpha tester I feel like it is my duty to chip in my 2 cents about game in return for letting me play for free. There is no doubt that 1.7.1 brought on a ton of new fixes that were needed. Of course there are some issues that remain. I really like: -Zombies seem to be less glitchy when they attack you, they don’t teleport around you like they used to. -Crawler animation is brilliant and somewhat scary when seeing it for the first time. -Buildings seems to be more effective at hiding your presence although not perfect. -Zombies don’t spawn with in 30 m of you, but sometimes you spawn with in 30m of themWhat I think still needs to be done:-Problem with zombies walking in the floors of some buildings and still able to do damage.-zombies still seem to be able to teleport through doors-Flash light seems not to effect zombies seeing you, although helpful, not realistic. What I dislike:Spawing with nothing while zombies have increased line of sight and damage.Hear me out on this, I am all for realistic as possible crazy zombies. But in a real life situation If I knew there was crazy flesh eating zombies out there, I sure as hell wouldn’t leave my safe spot with out means of protection. Now I respect the idea maybe you are out of food water and are desperate and have no choice but leave your safe spot and you end up on the beach. But even then, I feel that you would have acquired/mad some kind of weapon. I would suggest:Starting with some means of defense or tone down zombie sighteither one would keep the challenge up but make the game a little more realistic IMO.I’m not trying to make the game a walk in the park, my argument is centered around realism. In real life if there was a threat around, you would certainly have some weapon before setting out on your own to find food and water. I respect the game that has been created, It certainly is an amazing addition to the gaming world and adds a whole new style of game that I think the gaming community has been waiting for. Keep up the good work, and I am excited to see what other additions and fixes arrive in the near future!

Thank you for being intelligent and civil in your post, and taking the time to post more than three sentences (like I'm doing right now)! You've at least half-convinced me of the idea anyways. Its a game mechanic you cant justify this one by saying you wouldn't leave home without a gun. I know three places I could find a gun. none of them are less than 10 miles from where I live. There is a shop that sells crossbows 5 miles from where I live. This ain't america! Luckily in Cherno you don't have to go far to find one. You can very easily avoid zombies even in 1.7.1 3 time is have successfully manoeuvred around them until I was equipped. Took me 30-45 minutes. Unfortunately each time I got killed by another player :( I did get killed by zombies once at a deerstand, but that's a bug with the spawning values. Second time I got stuck trying to climb over a wall, same old clunky Arma II engine. Aside from that Z's are pretty easy to deal with, even with no gun. BathSalts 4 Posted June 17, 2012 Excellent first two posts.I just wanted to say that so far this is the best game I've played for immersion and fun, and I'm very appreciative of what rocket and dayzdevteam have given us. I tried for two weeks to survive on my own with some success, but now that I play with friends it's sooo much better. The points I would like to raise have to do with realism.Obviously rocket has already mentioned that the spawn timers are broken and a fix is coming. Super. Hopefully a fix for the insta-spawn zombies in cities and deer stands comes quick, but I can wait patiently - I understand that this is an alpha and I totally support the team. Now let me wipe the semen off my chin and continue.Zombies are rotting corpses of humans who weren't smart enough to escape the other rotting corpses of other dumb ex-humans. Zombies senses should not be greater than a humans. I should be way more worried about other players than zombies. I should be able to take a couple hits without bleeding, they're zombies and their muscles are rotting; they should not be so strong that they can break me or bleed me with one hit. If there are a few of them got me cornered I don't mind, but I gotta carry more than just meds and meat. And hiding isn't reliable enough to peg survival on, especially with the animations from prone to upright taking so long (which is fine I'm used to it from Arma). But zombies are dead; their eyes should be failing, their hearing as well. In zombie genre films the survivors often mask their living human scent, indicating the zombies most reliable remaining sense is smell. Maybe you could add wind direction or something so that you have to worry about if they can SMELL you!! They're wandering around looking for meat to eat right? Someone said that as things are now the game is just about crawling from loot zone to loot zone collecting weapons that you cannot use, and now I gotta be watching out for players who know it's much easier to shoot at a player than a zombie. When I'm being shot at it takes me a while to even figure out where the shots are coming from, and I'm a living person with full blood and health. How can a deteriorating zombie instantly know where my shot came from when I'm prone and hidden? Doesn't make sense realistically. Zombies aren't smart, they're dumb. They were too dumb before the patch, granted, but these new guys attack like super intelligent Africanized bees on amphetamines. How about a mix and match of dumb zombies and smart zombies? Some are bound to be fresher than others, anyway lol. How about dead players become zombies, too? Walking around with the gear they died with? That would be interesting. Zombies spawning in front of my eyes on the spot that I just dropped one, or every zombie in town running toward my single gunshot in the surrounding hills is; in my well informed opinion- overkill. Doesn't make sense. Maybe it's just a bug that will get ironed out and I'm not gonna freak out or anything but, well, it's kinda not fun right now because it doesn't make sense that a zombie is smarter, faster, and stronger than me. After all, I'm the one who is the survivor - the zombie already had their chance and failed. I hope y'all understand what I'm trying to say - I'm NOT COMPLAINING and I'm not whining (you who love to say so) - I'm offering constructive criticism. And if DayZ is ever stand alone I'll fork out the money gladly so that rocket and the team can get some reward for their labor of love. They've made a great example of what a gaming community can accomplish. Ok I'm done.

Let me stop you there: these are "28 days later" style zombies, i.e. they are not dead, they are live humans infected with a virus that makes them act like zombies. khalashnikovf 0 Posted June 17, 2012 Only one hint: Maybe you live in America where is constitutional law to have a weapon at home, but anywhere, especially in Europe, it is neccesary to make some exams and psychologicall tests before you are able to have a gun. So its completely logic to not have a gun if there is noone who owns it!Maybe if Rocket will plan to move DayZ also into Takistan (Most common weapon AK-47, nice :) )But this is completely fine move. Keep this in mind and just try to find some weapon, you will be fine too :)
seannybgoode 10 Posted June 17, 2012 I live in Canada. Unlike our nutty neighbors to the south, we have sane gun control laws. To get a gun, you have to go through a background check by our federal police force. Hardware stores still sell guns, gun stores still exist. There's a hardware store a 15 minute walk from my house where I could get a shotgun, or a hunting rifle and all the ammo I could possibly want. Police stations and military facilities have weapons lockers that would make you drool. If you're a farmer or a hunter or you live in the bush, you have guns. Guns are everywhere, even if you're a european urbanite, the guns are there, you just don't know it.
bowcaster 0 Posted June 18, 2012 In the case of a zombie apocalypse I would only have to walk down to my basement to find a gun lol. Anyway, about gun laws, yes in western Europe, you would probably find fewer guns, but don't forget this game takes place in an unstable eastern European country. Such a country is probably gonna have a lot more guns.

And it says as much on the homepage, I know. I should not have defined what a zombie is without prefacing it with IMO.I've read your suggestions for the game and I like them, too.
