I have DayZ downloaded but having trouble opening games in full view

I have downloaded 6 launcher and I have all that done. I have both games needed for the mod (OA and Arma II) they are on my steam account fully downloaded. They work fine but the thing is they only work if i choose to play the game in a windowed tab. If I just choose play game the games will show up on my taskbar and will make sound if I click on them like the game is at the start up menu but it won't actually show me anything. PLEASE help I have been seaching everywhere I don't know if I am missing something small or doing something wrong I really am on edge about this and am close to calling it quits until game comes out. If there is any advice anyone can offer I will follow to the letter! Really would like to be playing DayZ instead of searching all over the internet about how to fix it..... Basically it will not allow me to play DayZ because when you use 6 launcher it trys to open the program in full screen view (which has not worked on my computer for some reason) I am using a X51 Alienware desktop if that matters.
