Serves with disabled signatures?

Recommended Posts

I was looking for a new good private server and I've seen quite a lot with a bad protection in six updater and it tells that signatures are disabled for those servers. I'm only using Six Updater to find out if the servers have battleye since you can't do that with DayZ Commander so don't judge me!

Now my question is: Are those servers still hacker safe? Well I mean as much as servers with enabled signatures...

Or does it mean when signatures are turned off that hackers can't be tracked and banned? I mean global bans via BattlEye.

Very VERY few dayz servers are BE off. And battleye cannot protect you against hackers.

I've spoken about servers with disabled signatures and not disabled BattlEye.

And I know that BE dosen't protect you that much, but it at leasts protects you from those script kiddies who don't know how to "really" hack...

Most script kiddies who don't know how to use a Bypass or a Remote exec, or even where to get one are already banned. It is extremely easy to get a bypass right now, why do you think there are so many hackers?

After some searching, the cheapest bypass I can find is 5 dollars, that is why so many children have hacks(and they are hacks, people dont sell scripts they sell bypasses which are hacks).

BE cannot protect you against anyone who has sense, and cannot protect you against people who don't care because they have 5,000 keys(not exaggeration in the slighest).

I know about all that. But I just wanna know if disabled signatures make it any easier for hackers and scripters or if I'm as "safe" on a server with disabled signatures as on one with enabled signatures.

Im pretty sure signatures are what checks for certain things, hacked weapons, view distance, no grass hacks, ect ect

signature checks dont check for hacked weapons, they are solely done for checking for no grass hacks and similar things

If you join a server with disabled signatures, you can be pretty sure that somebody is hacking.

Signatures off = join with any mod loaded (be it good or bad).

That also means that somebody could modify his own dayz installation to inject malicious code into the server.

Basically it checks if the Hash Key on the server matches the Hash of your local addon, and if not (depending on server settings) it kicks you.

Overview

Addon signatures are a way to reduce cheating in Armed Assault. They are used to detect data files modified by anyone else but the addon creator. They are based on strong cryptographic principles (private/public key pairs), therefore hacking around them is very hard.

Addon is signed by its creator using a private key, while the public key is used by the game to verify that the addon has not been modified.

Terminology

  • Checked server: a server with signature verification on
  • Unchecked server: a server with signature verification off
  • Accepted signature: one of the signatures defined by the server as trusted

What is checked

Player connecting to a checked server is allowed to have present only addons which are signed by accepted signature. Any player not complying to this is detected, and based on server configuration a message in this sense may be displayed, or he may be kicked out, or another action defined by the server admin may be done.

Player cannot do any of the following if he wants to pass signature verification:

  • modify signed addons
  • use unsigned addons
  • use addons which are signed, but not by an accepted signature

If player wants to use unsigned addons when playing single player or when playing on other servers not testing for this, he needs to make sure such addons are not loaded before connecting to the checked server. This can be done using modfolders or by using some 3rd party addon management utilities.
