A few questions

Recommended Posts

So, I just started playing Dayz with my buddy the other day. And we were both having some troubles figuring out the controls. Here are my questions:

1) How do you talk in global chat? Or chat at all? We couldn't figure out how to talk outside of "group" chat, so we couldn't ever answer other people. We also saw people talking in a blue global chat at one point.

2) How do you switch to 3rd person? It seems pretty simple, but there wasn't anything under keybindings.

3) When you clear zombies from an area to make said area your base of operations, will zombies respawn there?

4) When you find other clothing, is it safe to equip it? I had seen some posts on the forums that equipping guilly suit/camo can break your game.

5) Can you make more than one character at a time? My friend and I want to play together, but we aren't always on at the same time. I'd love to have one character I play with my friend and one I can play on my own.

Best,

Anselm.

1) Global chat is disabled in 1.7.1. More info in Voice & Text Communication

2) Numpad enter key. 3rd person can be disabled on server though, and it is not a mandatory thing to mention in the server name. More info: Server Naming

3) Yes

4) Yes it's safe.

5) Character is tied to your game GUID (CD-key). To make a new one you need to buy another copy of the game.

1. Chat has been disabled in the latest beta patches. Servers have the option to switch off Global and Side channels. Try voice chat if possible.

2. The numpad Enter key. If you do not have a numpad, you can easily set it in controls.

3. Yes.

4. Sometimes but not all the time.

5. Only one character. Every time you log off and log back in, you return to where you were when you logged off. To make a new one, you need to click "Respawn" in the ESC menu or get killed somehow.

Alright, so voice chat or direct chat are the way to talk to people nearby. Caps lock is for direct voice chat, / is for direct text chat, and , and . are to change channels.

I tried the numpad enter key, but maybe I did something wrong, I'll try it again.

I figured that would be the case, that's fine though.

That sucks that you can only have one character, it will make things difficult. But I suppose we'll make due.

That means the server you were on has 3rd-person mode disabled. If you really want 3rd person mode, pick "regular" difficulty servers or servers that specifically say "3rd person enabled" or something to that effect.

Doesn't help. Server admins can enable and disable 3rd person on all difficulty levels (except expert). There are regular difficulty servers with 3rd person disabled.

This. I with it would be mandatory for all servers to mention 3rd person and crosshair setting in their name.

Generally' date=' the servers with 3rd person disabled on a reg-difficulty mention it in the server name.

I wish it would be mandatory for all servers to mention 3rd person and crosshair setting in their name.

Full agreement on this, with the addition of what timezone the server is sync'd to.

I agree with the Timezone thing, I was playing on servers that should technically be in the same timezone as me but it was night on the server at 3 in the afternoon.
