Occasional Blips of Frame-Drop: Help?

Recommended Posts

Hey, everyone. First, I may as well give you my gaming specs:

HP HDX16 Notebook PC running Vista Ultimate 64 bit, Service Pack 2

6 GB RAM

Intel Core2Duo Processor P8700 @2.53 GHz

NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M Graphics Card

=======

Now then, here's the issue: My gaming rig has worked pretty well for me the past few years, though it has understandably aged. I have an overclock that I use on some of the bigger games (Starcraft 2, for example) and that works pretty well. However, when it comes to Day Z, I've noticed that I have to keep my settings on the lowest possible to get a fluid game, and even then, I'll go for a few minutes before it temporarily (say, four-seven seconds) lag-freezes. It goes for another five seconds normally and then blinks (two-three seconds) again before becoming fine for another five minutes or so. It happens with the least frequency on servers closest to me and gets almost unplayable on anything outside the country (to be expected, but still.)

Are there any ways that 1) I can fix the skipping issue, and 2) improve the run with slightly-higher graphics? Even if I can't fix the second, I'd be happy with just a smooth game on low settings.

Thanks, all!

Thanks for the head's up, Zach. And, for the record, this has been happening for a week or so now since I got the game, not just since 1.7 came out

Waterblu: I did. I tried finding ones whose topics appeared to be similar, but didn't have much luck. I'm not going to delve through every post that says "Help me!" I appreciate what you're trying to do, but do be less of a dick about it, kay? Thanks.
