Joysticks not functioning in dayz but work in Arma II

I've got a Saitek x45 joystick and I can't seem to get it to work in dayz. In Arma II it works fine, but in dayz the joystick is seen in the options but doesn't function. My mappings from arma II are present, but I can neither map new controls or use the existing mappings. I've read a few people say joysticks work fine and I searched the forum and can't find anyone having issues with he joysticks. So I'm not sure what the issue is, anyone have any thoughts?

I am fully up to date in arma II (mixed, retail arma II and steam AO) and dayz through dayz commander, running win 7 x64.
