How do I set up or fund a new open or private server?

In the absence of a server hosting program is there any way I can help in funding or hosting a new server and how can I go about it?

I believe you have to supply the server for them and contact the devs, the forum is slow as shit so I can't find it.

Does it utilize more than 4 cores on the server side?

I have an older dual socket Quad Opteron (2xxx) rig that I never bothered completing due to lack of interesting games to host, but DayZ made my interest peak :)
