private_joker 24 Posted December 27, 2012 A public ladder ranking of each player's humanity score.sub-suggestions for this:1. "checking in" while in proximity to other live players gives a humanity bonus, maybe +300. Every player in the world different than yourself is an opportunity, once every 24 hours, to be a humanity check-in. This rewards groups that grow and stay together with more humanity.2. When you kill another player, you lose half of your humanity, rounded down. What if they shoot first? Nope. Still inhuman. Figure something out, no one said this was supposed to be easy! :-)This suggestion is meant to go with my other suggestion, here:http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/113105-zombie-kills-ladder-ranking/-Joker
Willard1118 31 Posted December 27, 2012 I like the "checking in" one.The other person doesn't even have to know you're there :)
private_joker 24 Posted December 27, 2012 The other person doesn't even have to know you're there :)I was thinking more like, you all get together in a group, then each person offers themselves up for humanity check-in, then every person that confirms it for them earns them the bonus. It'd work by a radius of like 8 meters, same as the combat timer.-Joker

Guest Posted December 28, 2012 2. When you kill another player, you lose half of your humanity, rounded down. What if they shoot first? Nope. Still inhuman. Figure something out, no one said this was supposed to be easy! :-)This would ruin the game, it's illogical to say it's inhumane to kill someone who is trying to kill you. Figure something out? Wow. In fact I proposed it to be easier to kill someone killing you in my thread, since you can't kill someone without losing humanity unless they have shot you first but that's unfair if they have ie an as50.Also, why should someone get humanity just for being near someone? What if they're a bandit or an asshole who conspires to murder them?
SnipersAre4Scumbags 9 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) If you kill someone while their combat indicator is blinking it shouldn't count, or at least be at a reduced cost. Edited December 28, 2012 by SnipersAre4Scumbags
challe 7 Posted December 28, 2012 good idea, better run then kill someone, that is the way to go, sometimes you just cant run and you do an inhuman thing anyway. it still is the same action. maybe half cost of humanity if you kill the one that have shot you and hitted you in less then a 30 sec or a minut
private_joker 24 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) yeh its not fucking inhuman if u kill someone whos killin' uAs long as the rules apply to everybody evenly, then all this does is create a more challenging landscape on which to play. Or did we not get into DayZ to be challenged? We're writing the rules for a game here, not the rules for the real world.Everybody is equally likely to run into the situation where they might die. The better you are, the less often you need to die. The zombie kills ladder rewards that.Everybody is equally likely to run into the situation where they might need to kill. private_joker 24 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) Also, why should someone get humanity just for being near someone? What if they're a bandit or an asshole who conspires to murder them? That's the challenge. You have to ask yourself, how much do you trust this person to let them into your proximity? If you're a trusting person, then that's good humanity.Obviously if somebody kills you, they lose humanity and they lose all future opportunity to get humanity from you.-Joker Edited December 28, 2012 by Private_Joker
private_joker 24 Posted December 28, 2012 I really feel like all the disagreement in this thread is from a common and very understandable knee-jerk reaction, but I think if you guys take a bit to consider how this will actually affect gameplay, you'll see that it opens up new dimensions of possibility.Of course it's acceptable to kill in self-defense. So says the law in pretty much all of the Western World. What we're talking about here is a measure of excellence--a measure of the people who go above and beyond survival. True heroes like Rick at the beginning of Walking Dead, who take on the extra burdens to give extra meaning to the preservation of life. When you kill in self-defense you preserve life, but when you let an attacker live, you preserve something greater (and of course totally optional, as a ladder ranking would be), and that's humanity.-Joker
