How do I talk in the side chat? I see people talking but how do I talk

It's the '.' key to change channels and the '/' key to start typing into whichever channel you are in.

EDIT: The ',' key can also make you go back a channel too, but I have it unbound so I forgot about it.

You change channels by pressing "," or "." there are the "Side" "Direct" "Group" (which is 100% useless in DayZ) and the "Vehicle" channels. In order to type in the specific channel's chat you press "/" type whatever you need to type and then press "Enter". Hope I helped :)

And remember that not all servers have the Side chat enabled.

Press L, but as above, just check through your keybindings via the Arma menu to check out specifics.

For future reference, try playing the tutorials that come with Arma, they take you through all of the basic controls, weapons, driving and so on. It'll help you be much better prepared when you play DayZ. They're good fun too.
