Help with FPS issues.

Recommended Posts

Now, I used System Requirement Lab to check how my computer fared, and sure enough, I got recommended settings for everything except my CPU, which, mind you, still stayed just above the minimum mark, however, I still get so much frame rate lag It's unplayable. I mean, it sometimes keeps itself above 20FPS, which I consider really good, but then, after about 10 or so minutes of playing, it goes down to about 5. Then again, that happens with most games I own. A simple re boot usually fixes it up for a while, then it goes back down. Can anyone help me? Please.

Overheating most likely... do you notice your computer becoming excessively hot?

Uh, no, not at all. When the frame rate starts getting choppy, I reach down and feel the sides of the computer, and it's lukewarm.

When was the last time you opened your computer's case and checked that all the fan (CPU, graphics card and case) were clear of dust build up?

System spec?

Graphics settings?

Okay, Graphics settings are all very low, I cleaned my computer out a day ago, and my specs are as follows:

CPU = Intel® Pentium® D CPU (3.00 GHZ)

RAM = 4GB

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit

Video Card: NVIDIA Geforce GT 440 Pixel and Vertex Shader 5.0, With 1GB Dedicated RAM

Sound Card: NVIDIA High Definition Audio

So, if I upgraded my Processor to say... A Quad-Core or something, I'd have a chance of running the game smoothly? Like, a good Quad-Core though. Or even a good dual core?

Edit: Will this do? "Phenom II X4 840 (3.2GHz, 95W, 2MB, total dedicated L2 cache, 0MB, L3 cache, 4000MHz HyperTransport™ bus, socket AM3)" It's $103. Right in my budget."

(I'm new to forums, so I don't know if this is on purpose, but it blanked this out for some reason. In case you didn't know, you can see it simply by highlighting it.)

You can't really just replace CPUs anymore, there's too many sockets and different types, Intel introduced the 1366 chipset and then quickly went right back to the 1155, so avoid those if you do (and should) go intel processors. You'd really be better off to build from the ground up, or at least get a barebones kit and then add a GPU etc. Don't use CPU based graphics for gaming, it won't be enough; CPU graphics are really just fluff, and in a pinch you can tell whether or not it was your graphics card that went out or your monitor, but that's it.

TBH your computer is god awful outdated. You shouldn't even be looking at dual cores because those are outdated as well. You really do need a quadcore or better to be gaming now adays. People just don't put out shit requirement games anymore really, they're all system intensive anymore. You can get by with a somewhat midrange graphics card, just keep in mind that ATI you want to look at the last 3 numbers, so a 3850 would be better than a 5350 graphics card, similar with nVidia - a 460 will be better than a 540 or 550.
