oddfello 1 Posted December 23, 2012 Hello allI have been playing for less than a month and last night I came across my first two heli crashes and have been thinking about my weapon choices ever since. I won't go into a long story but basically I started out with a M-14 AIM and CZ 550. At the first crash I drop the CZ 550 and pick up an FN FAL, easy enough. However at he second crash I find an AS50 as well as a DMR and SAW. When all was said and done I walk away with the AS 50 and M-14 AIM.My thinking is that with the AS50 I have daylight one shot kill capability and all that is the AS50. With the M-14...which I love a have a nice nightime NV compatable battle rifle. I dropped the FN FAL because I cannot rermember ever having seen ammo for it, at least not yet. I dropped the SAW for the same reason..then read you could use the M-4/M-16 ammo for it. I have wanted a DMR badly but I just could not part with the M-14 AIM.I have been wondering if I made the right choices here, having not been playing long, and honestly not even having used some of those weapons. I would like to hear your opinions. Thanks!
GulpinGulpin 40 Posted December 23, 2012 i would have taken the saw and a50dmr is my fav rifle in the game doe, but the saw and as50 are a lot rarer
Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted December 23, 2012 Keeping the M-14 was the smart idea...better for Close quarter combat than the DMR....as for my secondary, seeing i have the M-14 as my accurate primary i need something to suppress with, The SAW does that job perfectly, and yes ammo is a little hard to find but worth hunting for... a chain of Zeds hungry for your flesh... no worries, this LMG with happily mow them down without complaints!!But this is just what i prefer, one scoped ranged weapon for out in the open country, and an LMG for being about the towns.. nothing like a high rate of fire to make anything run the other way....
intensity (DayZ) 312 Posted December 23, 2012 DMR is a sniper variant of the m14. Unless you are playing on servers without a crosshair there would be no reason to keep the m14 except personal preference. It has NVG compatibility as well.
Kaffarov37 125 Posted December 23, 2012 I am currientily using the M249 SAW. It takes STANAG/STANAG SD/M249 rounds. I have never had a problem with ammo for it.
jdz (DayZ) 238 Posted December 23, 2012 I'd say you made the right choice, it's what I would have done. The M14 is super accurate, powerful and versatile and when you really need to reach out and touch somebody you have the AS50. Perfect combo, IMO
oddfello 1 Posted December 23, 2012 Thanks for the responses/Intensity - The server I play on does not have crosshairs. Though I am ok with the mildots, I probably would not take a shot at a target with the DMR that I couldn't hit with the M-14AIM.Zelot- Yeah I realized that after I logged and did a little research. I stashed my AS50 in a tent as I am playing a lot at night. If I see another one you bet I'll grab it. Cutting down a hoard with it is a good point. I know from using it in ARMA II against AI i was pretty much spray and pray against single targets.I definitely love the M-14 though. No seaching through the scope for a target and from what I have seen if it's under the dot, it's getting knocked down from very nice ranges. What I am really hoping to find is a SD gun, hopefully a handgun. I found a Bizon SD on a different private server with a second character. That's been it so far.thanks again!
