(for standalone) Ability to "clear out" certain areas

Recommended Posts

Sometimes when I play with friends we just like to chill out at some barn pretending it's hersey's farm or something :D

The problem is, theres always a couple (2-4) of zombies right outside, in the middle of nowhere, and if you kill them, they keep on spawning (which doesn't make sense in remote areas)

My idea is, that in certain areas that are remote enough (far from population centers or villages or military camps or stuff like that) you can "clear out" the zombies by killing them and they wont respawn for at least another hour or two, thus giving you and your gang a chance to actually use the building and it's surroundings for whatever need.

Make some random spawn time between 1 hour to 2 hours for the zeds to respawn there, thus adding some surprise factor and the need to "guard" the area from respawns that aren't as idiotic as shooting a couple of zombies over and over again every 10 seconds.

Temporarily being able to clear out areas would be great. I think that it would also be good if you could do this for urban areas, such as villages and towns; clear out a section of town, and have a duration of quiet before zombies either begin spilling in from neighbouring parts of town or spawn on the outskirts and start roaming back inwards. This would open the doors to being able to lock down an area and hold off zombie intrusion as they try to make their way back in.

I'm kind of opposed to having zombies respawn within the cleared out area. To compensate, the zombies respawning outside of the cleared area could become more numerous depending on what zone they're in. A town, for example, would result in a larger hoarde of zombies wandering towards it than a small farmhouse, but ultimately the number of zombies attempting to siege the zone would be larger than the amount you initially cleared from it. This would prevent clearing an area from being the redundant experience of shooting the same few zombies over and over.

So I guess the general idea in urban areas would be like this:

- Zombies doesn't spawn right on the building (including courtyard) that was cleared as long as there are still players there

- Zombies would spawn on the buildings around it and walk towards the cleared building

I think Zombies should be made more intelligent but have bonuses and problems all zombies could do the traditional Death bite but this could be made much easier to cure but things like say Jim clears out The Farm Zombies spawn in the Forest Around the Farm now and slowly walk around aimlessly until they either A Pick up on a scent which could be easily masked used to your advantage and they dont really get a great idea of where you are a Sound again could be used as an advantage or a sight (Which would be generally bad due to very few Neural Pathways being active) and if they kill Jim they spawn inside again but if Jim kills them and DOESNT attract more he gets a Rest and Zombies spawn further away but if he fires off a gun more spawn further away and start Trundling towards that town and eventually the Melee Weapons that could be held in a Seperate Slot become the main Item of choice for taking out the one or two dead however if you somehow clear an entire town Zombies dont spawn inside but slowly return or a large Herd of the Zombies that were meant to have spawned there just walk into the city and walk through then start spawning inside once more so people cant mass Kill because it just attracts more and more herds until you have 8 or so around the building waiting to eat you

I like this idea. It would be great if zombies spawned in swarms where they would move across the map blanketing several hundred meters to a mile. I think that spawns should be pretty dynamic where if you kill all zombies in an area that is not a massive population center zombies would have to wander back in from outside that area an hour or two later. If this were the case, zombie "swarms" could be repelled every one or two hours if you played your card right ie. stocked up on ammo, water, food and other supplies. People could hold a town like Novy Sobor for a long time as long as they kept supply lines running and did not let the swarms into town (which would be hard because swarms would be both large and aggressive much like a swarm of bees).

Another idea would be to have "events" triggered by, lets say, all zombies in a village dies, that would trigger spawning of zombie horde somewhere outside it and they would try to take the village back. This will serve as somewhat a "minigame" for groups of survivors to either try to hold the village or just loot and GTFO

Why did you necro a 9 day old thread?

Because I just thought of that after playing the "dynamic events" in Guild Wars 2 and didn't want to make a new one when I have a similar topic already open?

I don't get it, when someone have an idea and post a new thread but there's already a thread about it somewhere deep in the pages, people say "u noob, go use search function"

But when someone have an idea and add post to an "old" thread and people say it's "necroed"

Can't please people either way it seems...
