They're not corpses. Unless I am mistaken, these "zombies" are very much alive and were infected with a disease, very much like the RAGE Virus from 28 Days/Weeks later.

I heard that the first stages of the disease are a psychotic paranoia and homicidal desire to kill other non infected. After a period of massively increased heart rate, the infected gives over completely to the disease.
