Banned from US Dallas 303 during mass hacker attack

Recommended Posts

I was playing as "Cave Johnson" with my buddy "user" today on Dallas 303 and suddenly the horizon was on fire which is normally the sign for hacking. Everyone got banned and we can't get back on. Apparently this has happened before on Dallas 303 where hackers get everyone banned and I'm hoping everyone's bans get removed quickly as we had a lot of good gear we're going to likely lose in a ural.

Sadly that is what amateur server owners are doing these days. A hacker gets on their server and they just ban everyone who was playing.

The horizon being on fire is actually a "bug" of sorts. It happens when a helicopter crashes and I don't know if it's an intended feature but it creates a huge fire. Restarting ArmA usually gets rid of it.

Yeah. It's us idiot server admins who don't know what we're doing. I really wish I had some good tips for running a successful server, hopefully from a knowledgeable person like TheDesigner. Until then, I guess my server will just sit empty all day.

Anyway, the mass ban was corrected a while ago. A hacker had caused everyone in the server to execute some nasty code, and everyone therefore got banned for it automatically. The anti-hack script has been tweaked to avoid the mass-ban for that particular method for the future.

Also, you'll always get the fastest response by posting ban appeals at clansm.net. I generally only see posts here via Google Alerts.

I should've used "most" since that's a better word to use, but it is true that most server admins, who are new to owning a server, just ban everyone when a hacker attacks. Some tips I would give you is to not have Anti-Hax ban people and rather kick them and then you can review the evidence yourself ;).

I don't use DayZ Anti-Hax, for one, and if you believe just kicking would be an effective way to keep the hacking down in a server, I have to assume you just haven't seen the volume of hacking my server sees. I get false-positives, but they're a small fraction of my bans, which number 10-20 a day.
