br00talbastard 16 Posted May 8, 2012 Ok honestly, the second I heard about this mod I was psyched. I spent literally like a week thinking non-stop about it, reading up on it, and watching stuff on it. So I finally got $30 after prom and bough ArmA 2 CO and installed all the stuff. But when I try to play, for some reason framerate is never very good. It makes the game even more difficult then it already is. I literally have almost everything on normal and or low. I even turned down my resolution and it still doesn't work. It has forced me to even play in thirdperson because the framerate is easier. Because in 1st person it's very hard to move about buildings and such. Now with that being said, the mod is still fun as hell. I can't imagine if it ran smoother. Please, if anyone knows a solution or what I'd have to buy to make this run better let me know. I really want to get into this mod, but with the way it is currently for me, it'd be very hard to.Computer Specs-Intel Core i7 CPU 2.80GHz8GB RAMATI Radeon HD 5700 SeriesWindows 7- 64bit OSBought on STEAM. Ketsugo (DayZ) 1 Posted May 8, 2012 if you have a 2 core cpu' date=' then add -cpuCount=2[i']-nosplash: removes startup splash screens-world=empty: makes it so a heap of junk isnt loaded up in the background of the menu screen-maxmem=2047: Sets the maximum virtual memory allocated for the game, works up to 2047.-cpuCount=2: Ensures both cores are used, me thinksmouseSmoothing=1; makes you mouse way smoother :P probably the most effective tweak for me...3.) In Game OptionsVideo memory - DefaultSet that sucker to default, Very High = 512MB default will detect if you've got higher.Post processing effects - Offvsync - Off3D resolution - set it to be as close to your natural resolution as possible, preferably set it to the same. THis is a must to make your game playable, not looking seriously blurry.Sorry I'm in a bit of a rush, this is about 3/4 of the tweaks I had, I'll finish the rest tomorrow. Sorry, hope this helps!NatoI'd add that Antialiasing is a huge performance eater if you're not geared for it, keep that off. Anisotropic Filtering on the other hand is arguable. If you're hurting for performance and don't care about image quality, get rid of that as well. It's not nearly as much of a performance hog though, in my experience.(Also, mouse smoothing set to 1? I dunno about all that. It's down to preference, I think. I prefer it off.)
br00talbastard 16 Posted May 8, 2012 Wanderer, thank you very much man. I'm at school at the moment, but once I get home I'll try them out. I really hope this works. And Ketsugo, my computer normally runs like every game just fine. I mean hell, I used to play Crysis on almost all very high. And that would seem a lot more demanding then ArmA II. At least it should be. And I have a hard time believing that every video I see of someone playing it has a better rig then me. Object detail is another one that will determine how much grass the game spams in your face...
mazikainen 0 Posted May 8, 2012 Just as a note to all those who got combined ops just for this mod and have no previous experience with arma 2: The engine is very, very heavy. The way it plays nowadays after a couple of years of patches and optimizations makes it seem smooth to those who played the game when it came out. This game will suck out every iota of your comp's processing power and demand more angrily. This isn't the source engine we're talking about. Dualcore is the bare minimum and a quad does not guarantee a smooth ride. Also, when you move around with your character, and you've gotten used to your generic call of duty fps's, Arma will feel very awkward. It will feel like your character walks in glue, turns, aims and shoots slowly. There's the milsim heritage of the game. The way Arma2 handles movement is to try and model a soldier in full gear moving around on the battlefield. It's supposed to feel cumbersome.
ordeal 8 Posted May 8, 2012 Can i add that you probably shouldn't be putting -maxmem=2047 that's for very old versions of the game before it was a LAA version using more then 2gigs RAM came out(more details on BIS forums). So i would definitely not use that command! And as far as I'm aware there's no need for -cpucount=2 because Arma detects that also. Its more for people with 6cores so they could restrict it to 4 and so on.Good luck!
br00talbastard 16 Posted May 8, 2012 Maz, it's not that I mind feeling "cumbersome". I understand that completely, as long as I smoothly move cumbersome hahaha, if that makes any sense? Believe me, when I watch videos of the game, there's something inherently different. When I play, walking through a building is a huge chore. And zombies aren't smooth either. They have a tendency to teleport.
Carpetbob 0 Posted May 8, 2012 I have a major problem when trying to play the mod. I only get 8-10 frames per second. I put it everything on high settings and I get 8-10, then I tried minimum everything and got exactly the same framerate, 8-10. I know it's not arma, or OA since I play those on high just fine. It's only when I try to play the mod itself. Not sure if anyone else is getting this problem, I really can barely play at all.

mazikainen 0 Posted May 9, 2012 hmmh. If you play regular combined ops on chernarus and it runs fine but you suffer bad fps on dayz.. interesting. I'd say there's less happening on the screen on dayz than on your normal Arma firefight, after all.

I still have not found out my problem. I have tried every single tweak or trick everyone has recommended. It makes me just a little sad, and angry since I'm almost a burden to my squad.
