Weapons disappearing when dropping them, Way around it?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

This has happened to me a few times and i think its a known bug therefore im not reporting it in the bug thread. Just now i was looting a supermarket and i found a Remington 870 with flashlight on the ground. I thought well that be more use than my secondary shotgun that i had in my backpack. So i figured i'll just drop my primary, take out my winchester and drop that a few feet away then i can pick my M4A3 CCO back up and put the remington in my backapack. But as soon as i dropped my M4 it along with its ammo just disappeared.

I know this happens but is there a way to go around it? Is there another way to pick up new gear that doesn't involve me dropping my gear?

Im not the best at the gear system yet :P

From what I've found it USUALLY won't disappear if you drop it into an already existing loot pile.

I can't remember if this bug is in vanilla. The inventory system really needs to be changed, we had one m4a1 and a ak74 cobra disappear yesterday. =/

So youre saying that if i open up a lootpile and then drop my M4 in there it will just end up in the loot pile and not disappear?

Trading goods in vehicles, fires and animal corpses is probably the most reliable way

Putting a weapon from your inventory into a lootpile is safe, it will not disappear.

You should do that every time you want to change your weapons if you find something new.

Most safe way: put the ammunition first into the lootpile, then the weapon itself, then put the new ammunition into your backpack, then the new weapon into your main slot, then the new ammunition from your backpack into the inventory. Takes some time and you're very vulnerable while doing this, but on the other hand: losing both weapons as it happens from time to time too is the same stupid situation.

Also, when exchanging a weapon from your backpack with the one in your inventory, make sure you got at least one slot more free in your backpack than amount of items to be exchanged. May get screwed up too sometimes, so here again: it's safer to use an already existing lootpile.

Yeah the vanilla ARMAII inventory management system is really fucked up. Especially regards to bags and dropping loot. the ACE2 mod did a great work around with bags and seems to work much more reliably. Also it offers the possibility to acces someone else inventory directly , without risking losing some item by dropping it to the ground.

It would be great if dayZ implemented such system. untill then I recommend that when transferring items between players , to put them in the others players bag , it seems to work much more efficiently. Also never try to move an object to a full bag or full inventory this seem to be the number 1 cause to disappearing objects.
