an account of my 4th Day in DayZ - Kill or be killed

Recommended Posts

I had survived around 4 days on my character, nice AKM with 4 mags, plenty of supplies in an ALICE pack.

Climbing a hill outside of one of the towns (I forget which) I hear rustling in the bushes, I go prone... and wait.

A lone survivor drifts past in a crouched run, I don't think he has seen me but I can't be sure... I decide to wait a minute then follow, I crawl up the brow of the hill and wait again.

He has spotted me and is approaching from behind in a low crouch, rifle raised, I turn to face him, we lock sights on each other for around 2 seconds. It seems neither of us wants to fire, but we both know what is coming...... I hesitate a little too long and he puts a .303 round into my head... Game over... I won't be making that mistake again.

I respawn on the coast, I head north looking for supplies..... after an hour or so my bag is full and I have a lee enfield with 30 rounds. I head east.

With the light fading, I approach a coastal town, I sit and observe for a couple of minutes, but see no one, I head in to look for supplies.

A small outbuilding provides a tin of beans and a couple of makarov mags, I begin to collect them as I hear gunfire... a pistol maybe, it is close.

I sneak around the side of the outbuilding and wait behind a nearby wall. More shots... very close now, are they aimed at me? I can't tell, i wait nervously rifle raised.

a lone survivor jogs past and enters the outhouse, he begins to pick up some of the gear I have left... I raise my lee enfield and squeeze off one round. He drops in a fine bloody mist... but that shot was loud and it seems all Chernarus heard it.... The zeds come thick and fast as I zigzag for the hills knowing this is how things are going to be now....This is how I stay alive.

Welcome to DayZ

Excellent story!

I think its a lot of fun to read about people who were trying to be honest players, but the harsh reality of the Day-Z world twists their prespectives.

+5.
