DayZ Standalone: Realistic Looting

Recommended Posts

I was reading suggestions on the forums and saw a post about legal guns, I then thought of something simple.

Searching objects...

  • The ability to search draws
  • Ability to search shelves
  • Searching gun cases for weapons
  • Searching market shelves for food, and dormant refrigerators for drinks (Also to add onto my zombies that can smell with the addition of hygiene suggestion (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/110458-zombies-that-can-smell/), you have to brush your teeth to stop tooth infections, decay and tooth aches curable by pain killers etc. because lets face it, all those cans of coke, pepsi and mountain dew can't really be that good for your teeth. However this may go too in depth of realism)
  • Searching under beds
  • Cracking safes
  • Ability to search lockers in military bases and locations for ghillie suits, camo clothing, night vision goggles, range finders, military backpacks and such
  • Possible to take clothing out of draws and cupboards to put on, e.g. a casual shirt, or a suit
  • Looting different objects make you do different looting animations, but you can cancel the animation if you need a quick escape

So overall I'm suggesting that you can search different objects for different types of loot, giving the feel of realistic looting.

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, or if it's happening with the standalone already, but if so... sorry, I couldn't find any posts about realistic looting.

This could actually be done with not too much trouble, just give shelves etc inventories like weapons crates have and make loot spawn there.

What is that meant to mean -.-

He's referring a similarity of your suggestions to the game Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

Actually , it was a bit of a nod at the "looting system" in the age old classic , Impossible Mission .

If you know what i am talking about , you're probably old like me .

It'd make looting somewhat more lengthy, and authentic, as opposed to just glancing around the room.

Who the hell removed all the food from the shelves and placed them on the floor in neat piles?

Personally i wold like a mix between Fallout and metro 2033 when it comes to looting, AKA you can search cupboards and gun cases Fallout style, but when it comes to looting a dead body in a dangerous situation you can quickly pick up the weapon and ammo on the body like you can in Metro 2033 (but the ability for a longer loot search is still available by using a different key)

personally i love them both too, and there is going to be something good to look forward to from the next fallout, since the people at bethesda also fell in love with the metro 2033 loot concept. so that gives me aglimmer of hope for yet better survival game in the wasteland.

Totally agree loot should be in both scattered and in its respective wardrobe drawers etc. Creates much greater sense of atmosphere

Fallout style looting would be much better. In terms of having many places to look to keep a player occupied and potentially vulnerable. It would add a lot of suspense.
