DayZ character saving

Hello,

Dayz newbie here ;) And I was wondering how the "character saving" system works? Because to be honest, I don't understand a single bit of it.

For example, I was under the impression that I was able to take my character to a different server and have all my items I had on the server before this. Since I didn't have the items I had before, I decided to switch back to the server I was on, and I had only the starter items! :( Weird thing is though, I was on the same spot as I had logged out.

Could someone clarify this please? Or link me to a place where it is already clarified?

There is this system called "hive".

When you play on a private-hive server your character data save for that server only so that when you connect to another server you spawn as a freshly new survivor.

When you play on official servers using the public hive it will just save for all the servers.

If you play on the public hive your data will carry over to each new public server. If you play on a private server your data stays on that server and doesn't carry over to the next server.So if you play on private servers be sure to play on the same server each time or you will have to start over each time. If you use DayZ Commander just click on the recent tab and choose a server from the list there.

Hmm ok, I am using DayZ Commander. But every time i switch servers(or even log to the same server again) I lose everything :( 3 times now anyway, don't know if I'm just unlucky.

Are you sure you are being placed on the same server? My gf and I have had issues recently whereby we would try to enter a server using Dayz Commander only to find we have been redirected to a totally different server. Could this be happening to you?
