Senrain 148 Posted June 17, 2012 I've been playing with two primaries for a while and I've always quirked a brow at the fact a SVD and M240 take up the same amount of space in your backpack as an MP5 or AKS-74U. I also scratch my head when I see that a pistol takes up more space than five cans of beans, in an ALICE pack realistically I could shove up to twenty handguns inside a backpack that big. However I do understand the need for balancing, but I believe a pistol should take up a little less space.Primary weapon space--------- Small primaries such as the MP5, AKS-74U, and other SMG sized weapons should take up about 6 slots. These weapons are light and easily stuffed into a backpack. Medium primaries such as the AK variants, M4 variants, pretty much all the full sized assault rifles and few similarly sized sniper/battle rifles such as the M14 AIM/CZ 550/DMR should take up 8 slots, these weapons are bigger but would still be easily stored if broken down. LARGE primaries such as M240s, MK 48, SVD, etc. should take up the whopping default 10 slots. Even if you broke these guns down, they are still pretty inconvenient to lug around in your bag.Secondary weapon space-------- I would like to suggest that pistols take up four slots, and flashlights take merely two. The PDW should take up the default 5 slots simply because it's a somewhat large weapon.(I don't want to suggest that weapons take up more space than the default 10 and 5 slots, this is purely up to the devs if they decide to consider this suggestion.) duddbudda 33 Posted June 17, 2012 I agree that slots are notsogood (an MP5 has the same volume as an AS50? wut?)I'd have SMGs at eight slots, rifles at ten and bulky or long-barreled weapons at twelvebut I'm more of a 4Xer normally: these sizes have an eye on resource management considerations and balancing, which may not be too applicable to a sim like ARMA or a purposely unfair design like DayZ
Budiak 1 Posted June 17, 2012 In all honesty, I don't think any long guns should be stored in the pack. I think you should strap them to the side, like when you sling your primary. Unless you're using a dragbag you're not putting an M24 or M240b in any backpack I've ever seen. Otherwise I pretty much agree with your proposal. And yes, it would make you a target. Ah, the price of avarice...

I'm trying to make this suggestion easy to implement, so the devs can merely just tweak a few variables if they need to.
jesquik 75 Posted June 17, 2012 This is huge, as often carrying multiple weapons to hedge your bets on ammo is critical. My biggest peeve at the moment as far as space goes is that flashlights count as a pistol... especially after the gamma nerf.

zeeb 6 Posted June 18, 2012 I think big assault rifles shouldnt be able to be put in a backpack, but in a completely diffrent slot, how awesome wouldnt it be seeing a survivor with a SVD on his left backpack side and a AKM on his rightside of the backpack, tho adding a weight system would be fucking awesome as hell.Else very good suggestion, signed. punisher_1 3 Posted June 18, 2012 I agree with most of what you postedAnything much larger than a sub machine gun will not fit into a back pack. What would be a better idea is that military or large packs are able to strap an additional weapon to the outside. The idea of placing a large weapon inside of a pack just denies the user of more pack space it's not realistic for the simple fact it would not fit and mostly stick out of the pack making it a pain in the ass.Taking it apart ( to fit ) would make it useless for any combat situations. zeeb 6 Posted June 18, 2012 And it should take atleast 1 minute to assemble the parts, we arent pro militants, just simple survivors, so the knowledge on how to assemble a gun aint gonna be easy..
Roshi (DayZ) 397 Posted June 18, 2012 Bump. Changing backpack space usage would be worth a look in.
Senrain 148 Posted June 18, 2012 Would think this suggestion would get more attention, then again people are busy crying about the latest patch.
dut 21 Posted June 18, 2012 Excellent suggestion. But I think 4 slots is still too many for pistols.Slot usage would need to be added to weapon descriptions to prevent accidentally destroying certain weapons.
zeeb 6 Posted June 18, 2012 Added this along other useful suggestions, just bump my suggestion thread. If we're lucky Rocket may see it, if it gets enough well said comments, check it out never the less.
