Server confusion.... need advice

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've played Arma before and knew about the DayZ mod but never played it due to my confusion about downloading/installing/running the mods. I've taken a new intreset in it now and would like some advice about what servers are best to play on.

Also, I'm still a bit confused about all the mods. I know I need a launcher for this, but just how hard is it to set up and play on different servers that require different mods? I've also noticed that there are different builds required by different servers.... which should I have (my current v. 1.62). Build 99153 seem popular when I look at the servers.

I just need a little help getting started. I don't want to have to uninstall/reinstall any more.... >:(

Thanks for the help,

Witless

Okay.

The easiest way is to download and install the DayZ Commander tool: http://www.dayzcommander.com/

It does everything for you, to install/update any of the mods just hit the 'Install/Update' button at the top and it's very easy to follow (Hit update to update and install to install any you don't have).

Hey Rossums,

Any advice about which build I need??? (99153 or some other?) I've done the unistall/reinstall and don't feel like getting it wrong again. (installed the latest one and then found only a few servers running it)

Thanks for the help,

Witless

Beta patches are backwards compatable. If you download the latest beta patch you can play on servers running any version.

Hi Witless, welcome to the DayZ forums.

You need Arma-Combined Operations - actually it's the arrowhead part you need, if you already have arma2. (cost depends on where you live) and the latest patch for it from http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php. Then you need the alpha version of the DayZ mod. http://dayzmod.com/

Those and Dayzcommander (great game loader that lets you find the best servers) should get you started.

Have a look at the sticky threads in this forum as there are video/youtube guides on how to install the game.

Also, tell us which country you're in and we might be able to suggest a friendly first server. Best of luck. Ask if you've any more questions. :beans:

Apologies, I see you've already done the first part.

Haha, looks like it has been covered.

As long as you have the latest one they are backwards compatible.
