New Server Install? Help?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Looking to get a host to run a 36 man server, they are asking if you need access to the server to set it up, or can the files be uploaded via ftp?

Thanks

G'day Marker.

In order for a DayZ server to work, you more or less need Remote Desktop Access, and a Windows Based Server (Linux isn't supported as of yet). Unfortunately this cannot be achieved with some servers, especially from providers such as GameServers.

The reason for this is that DayZ servers use two more .exe applications alongside the ArmA 2 server.

Drop dayzdevteam@gmail.com an email.

All the best.

If this is true, would it be possible to just rename the exe file to the one the server is launching? I just ordered a server through nfoservers.com to host a DayZ server, will be a waste of money if it is not possible :(

Unfortunately not. You need to have remote desktop access for it to work. Servers from hosts such as GameServers, and I'm assuming nfoservers only give you a small web interface and ftp access and the ability to restart, stop and change the target line. Therefore you will be unable to run the two other applications needed to host the server, thus rendering it useless, in terms of DayZ, fine for normal ArmA though. As cm stated, you should have enquired about this before buying the server.

If you can email nfoservers and see if you can get remote access or have the ability to run two small exe files alongside your server exe then I'd recommend doing so as server providers often don't give refunds, which is unfortunate in your circumstance.

So is contacting dayzdevteam@gmail.com the required procedure for moving forward with a dedicated server install? I got A2 and A2:OA installed using steam as well as 93965 beta downloaded and installed from BIS. Not sure where to go from there.
