After a long session playing with mouse and keyboard i find it good to sit back in-between towns with a controller.

I like to play most games with the Xbox controller.

But it doesn't really work for Arma, you can adjust the settings, the game wasn't designed for this though.

And besides, when you play console games online, it's allright cause everyone has to aim with the analog stick, so why would you like to have a huge disadvantage to the other players in DayZ?

Well, from what I heard, there's too many buttons for a average controller to be used by itself.

I use the Xbox controller for the running about and mouse for aiming so I hope it's implemented though won't be the end of the world if it's not. Controller makes flying vehicles easier to control for me too.

You can use a corded Xbox controller, and there are enough buttons for the major functions, but it can be awkward with movement in ArmA. It works well with flight, but not so much with aiming and movement in the infantry. If you use Xmapper, it's pretty easy to map the controls. Feel free to give it a whirl, but it involves a lot of trial and error figuring out sensitivity and button configs you find best.
