Did I kill a hacker?

I'm a new player and will admit I've made plenty mistakes. Anyway a freind just started the game and wanted to meet up. We met in the tower at Balota as I was giving him some gear a player spawned in behind us. I asked if he was freindly in voice he gave me no response. I stood on one side my unarmed freind on the other. I waited a little longer still no answer he then crouched and aimed at me with an M9SD I killed him with my PDW. Now this is what gets odd almost immedatly he was down stairs saying he was freindly there was maybe 3-4 secs from when he died and when he spawned. Is it possilbe to spawn in Balota it just seemd to conveinent. I looted his body then got out of there I feel bad killing a freindly player but something didnt add up to me. Anybody else think that he was hacker in freindly clothing or am I just a douche.

Spawned in? you mean teleported? how do you know if it was behind you.

What indicates if he was hacking and why would he come back to the same place if he did. Yes balota is a spawn point. maybe you got the time wrong. Time flyes in DayZ. Balota spawn takes about 1-2 minutes run to the tower.

On public servers people will often server hop in areas that spawn military items. There's no reason to think he was hacking, just server hopping (another reason to use private hives).

I wouldn't say you were a jerk, you made a decision after trying to make contact. He raised a weapon and posed a threat to your group. In the real world during such times he would have been killed just the same. Don't let it keep you up at night.

Great I was a jerk...

I wouldn't say so. In fact you've done Chernarus a great service. People that server-hop to farm gear is against the spirit of the game and generally sucks. I kill them whenever I can.
