Linux Servers and Size

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone! I'm new to the forums and I just thought I'd stop by and make a thread.

Now, I'm not sure if this is the appropriate area of the forum to discuss this or if I'm being ridiculous, but:

I was wondering if there were plans to get Day Z working on Linux servers. A lot of people have servers that run some form of a Linux distro. I am one of them. I own a rather large server for the extensive purposes of renting space and hosting my own gaming servers. More the latter than the former.

I really want to put up a server for Day Z, but I would prefer not to have to spend the money for Windows Server 2008 (which I have no interest in using to begin with). Though, I am tempted to do just that for this mod since I enjoy it so much.

I was also wondering if 50 players was the maximum size that a server can be. I am curious, because I have quite a bit of horsepower to work with. It would be cool to get a lot of players in one server.

My server specs are:

32 GB of DDR2 RAM

Two Dual-Core AMDs (I forget the specific model) clocked at 2.4 Ghz

Two 500 GB HDDs

100 Mbps connection speed

The server is located in Texas.

I appear as Calavera in-game, by the way. I'd appreciate it if a dev could answer my questions.

I apologize if I've asked something that's been asked over and over. I didn't see it in the FAQ.

Hi,

Myself was also thinking about the same thing.

There is a something which is against the Linux version though... in the FAQ (http://www.dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=15), it is stated, that currently only Windows 2008 is supported AND they need "RDP for DayZ staff so updates can be self applied".

I think this is a very strict limitation, and even if they made the server available for Linux, I don't think many people would allow "some DayZ guys" to access his Linux server.

I'm not judging the way the staff is handling the server software, it is just an observation, why a Linux version won't be available in my opinion - but I'm praying for a disappointment :P

Any word from the dev guys maybe? ;)
