Super dumb question: Do you have to start over every time you run the game?

Recommended Posts

I always had shut the game down when I got killed, and came back a few nights later -- on a beach in Kamenka with a flashlight and a bandage.

But now that I'm a little better, I play a while, don't get killed, have a few useful things ... then come back another night -- and I start back on Kamenka Beach with a flashlight and a bandage.

It isn't supposed to be this way, right? Aren't I supposed to keep my on-person belongings and location between play sessions? If not, is this a known bug?

Thanks in advance!

There are multiple hives and private hives that don't connect to any other instances.

For example thier is the main DayZ public hive, HFB hive, Bliss Private hives. Try to stay with one server as much as possable or learn how to reconize the various Hives.

I love how you two above me are advertising your private hives in a thread asking about how he can keep his stuff from his last server when he logs into a different one, which would be to avoid private hives.

Hmm well, no not entirely trouble-free. For example, if the admin is say a 16 years old selfish, irresponsible bully who kills people just because he enjoys the power, to whom do they complain or appeal for help? There not being anyone to report it to is definitely "trouble", in my book. However, I do agree that private hives are great for avoiding hackers. I play on them mainly, though as I say, there are risks.

Play how you like, I will play how I like. Namalsk is an very harsh enviorment, with the kit i offer i just barely gets them going. Life span on is averaging under 4 hours on my server so i dont think it unbalanced.

Starting gear NVGs and an M4A1 SD? Whats the point in looting after that!? Might as well just play ArmA2 instead of DayZ!

Just a "new user experience" observation here -- this game would greatly benefit if these features followed your account, no matter what server you joined. Making the user remember which server they visited last so they don't lose all their stuff is one of those elements which can cause drop off in audience who won't want to deal with the additional mental hurdle.

(Full disclosure, I'm a game developer myself, I've been making games for 20 years; this is not to give my observation any additional value but please recognize that I've made many mistakes myself and this comment is offered with the most constructive intent.)
