Hey guys me and a huge group of friends use your server and randomly your 50 population went all they way down to 3. All the people who were kicked were also banned. So could we get some answers? The ban says "Bad public variable" the date is (2012-11-15)

Rammfisch: Fixed by now? This thread is from minutes ago. I only know about stuff in this forum when I get Google Alerts about it (hence the message in the MOTD about posting at clansm.net for fastest response).

Anyway, a hacker caused this to happen. As I've gotten so good at catching what they do, they've figured the best plan is to cause others to run the same kind of code they do. They get banned, but so does everyone else in the server. I've been working with Dwarden and others in IRC to close the hole, but for now, it's going to keep happening. I prefer it over the alternative (everyone dying and losing their stuff). For now, those banned are unbanned, and I'm reviewing the logs frantically.

I have no idea. If I was at home I'd check. I haven't played on your server, I was just letting the OP know that there was already a thread about this :P

Hopefully you guys can work it out. Possibly create a script for a mass-ban script restriction. Possibly your best option to prevent this from happening again.

Well sure, but if I made my script do that, it wouldn't even ban the original hacker. I'd rather ban everyone and let them play on other servers while I sort it out than not ban the hacker and let him run rampant.

Anyway, I verified that the hacker was indeed also banned. He's attacked me at least 3 times so far on different GUIDs. Good times.

A few minutes ago, this happened again apparently. I was camping out in Cherno hearing some gun shots and waiting on my victims to show themselves and then *POOF* I was banned. I went back to look at what happened to the server and it was down to 3 people on it. Anyway, I was going to appeal the ban because I had never been on your server (nor cheated) before but I didn't want to go through the whole process of signing up on your forums.

I'm assuming you banged your gavel again?

As of right now, the server is offline as I investigate. After I restarted the server to clear this last hack, someone joined and started actively manipulating my banlist, unbanning and banning GUIDs as they pleased. They also approached some players, told them they were hacking, and then banned them.

For anyone who knows about DayZ server config, this entry from scripts.log should show you the severity of the situation:

You must be getting target for some reason? Maybe change your server name or something. I'm not sure.

And I'm sorry for what's happening :/ I'd hate to be in your situation. Paying good money to help the community out to have it destroyed by some looser :(

It's far from being destroyed. It's just a pretty popular server. Hackers don't like being caught, and they love a challenge. I just try to stay as close to ahead of them as I can.

I temporarily made it not kick for that. I don't know why it's not happening to everyone else, but it's just due to incompatibility with old BattlEye filters and the new version, apparently.

I just played on US303 Dallas and i got the same ban "You were kicked of the game. (Battleye Admin Ban (2012-11-23 hacking (Bad public variable)))". I was just looting the tents at Stary Sobor and then suddenly i got banned for nothing :3

If your in-game name is Marmotz, then you're unbanned, and the script has been tweaked to avoid that particular false-positive.
