Diverse Landscapes

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I am sure that this may have been mentioned before, but I like the idea so much I'll make sure to mention it again.

I began playing Day Z a few months ago and have loved it. I have tried all the new maps and love how each one brings a new

feel to the mod. The main reason for me was not the new guns or vehicles on these maps that were not available on vanilla Day Z but the envrionment. For instance my favorite map atm is Namalsk. I like it because it really feels like an apocolyptic wasteland. The snow, the wind, the cold, and the creepy ambiance in general really help provide a completely enthralling experience.

That is what I think the new Day Z standalone map should have. A variety of climates. For instance I think that a small region up north should consist of large mountains covered in snow and trees and rocks, making the temperatures extreme this would be an area that only those well equipped to survive would venture. There could be incentive to go there or not. Because one thing I know is that people are always looking for a place to hide a camp and I think with intimidating and unwelcoming places on the map it would kinda enforce the risk/reward mentality. It would also add to the immersion, as long as the changes in climate were gradual and realistic. I am not talking seasons here (although that would be kind of cool) I am just talking about making different physical environments and landscapes to add to the already vast game.

Thanks,

[GG] James

I agree I'd love to see larger maps, much like an MMO where you can roam to different climates and be affected by weather. You get :beans:

I think this is the general direction the team is going with the game anyway, and a reworked weather system. There is still something about the chenarus map, and probably because it is the one I am most familiar with; but I do not like the namalsk map. I do welcome diversity and would like to see a completely reworked Chenarus with a more modern feel. We currently just have the same buildings recycled and spread around the map, I want to feel like I'm in a real town with some real design to it. Police stations, Grocery Stores, Malls, Strip malls, Neighborhoods, Apartments, etc... Might be a little too much to ask for though.

Yea my impression from their updates is that the developers are moving towards a more unique feeling for the towns. I spend the majority of my time in the woods or out along the roads so for me I would love feeling like I am in a unique portion of the map. From what I have heard from Rocket he wants to make the map a place where it would actually take a ton of effort to move from one side to the other. This will make groups occupy certain zones and stay generally in that same area. I think that part of creating these zones should be based on landscape not just some cool loot spawn. (NWAF) I think if there were a small military instillation up in the mountains or deep in the woods I think that would go a long ways to creating that kind of personal stake in an area feeling. You "claim" an area. I have heard of this occurring on some servers, but it is usually a group trying to set up a "hospital" or "police station". Many people know that going to NWAF is dangerous not only because of the high population of military zombies but also it is usually camped by bandit snipers. But I think there should always be that feeling of being watched. Like you decide to travel between two regions and you know in the hills of that area Group X usually hangs out, or in the mountains there is a territorial battle between Group Y and Z. I like that idea...
