Persistence is Key

Recommended Posts

Sometimes, persistence in the grips of death can bring about some amazing results.

There I was, playing on Panthera, and was near the north east airfield. In an industrial building, I spot another survivor. Now, on the server I usually play on, it doesn't really tend to matter what you say. People will be hostile. So as I fire my first shot with my winchester at him, I hear him say friendly. But I already planted a round in him, so I figure there's no sense pretending everything will be okay and we can go about our merry way. He happens to have a M1014.

With zombies approaching me from every angle, I attempt to fire another few shots at him, but miss as one of his shells lands right in me. As I try to exit the building, I notice him run towards the building next to mine. I pop out the door, and turn to aim another round at him. We both fire simultaneously, my shot clipping his arm, his shot breaking my legs and bringing me down to a blinking red health state and bleeding. Ah crap, that was my last shot.

At this point, my fiance comes up and starts watching, hearing my heated exclamations in the midst of battle. The survivor is still out in the open, and attempts to bandage. A zombie whacks him, and he realizes he's not in a good spot to bandage. I quickly drop my winchester, and before switching to my axe I figure he's going to fire at me to finish me off, so I roll. Sure enough, barely dodge that round. As he starts running past me to get inside the industrial, I pull out my axe. There are zombies everywhere, I'm sure to die any moment, and this guy is presumably in the middle of the industrial building. Fuck it, I say, I'm not giving up quite yet.

I make my crawl to the doorway, having to squirm around a couple zeds just to get my way into the door. There he is, in the middle of the building as suspected, applying a bandage. THIS IS IT!!! NO TURNING BACK NOW!! I start rolling my way in his direction, and just as I see his bandage animation stop and his shotgun muzzle raise up to point directly into my face, I make a desperate swing, sure that I am out of range. I hear a single shot, see his body contort in a strange manner, and..... he goes down.

At that point, I could have applied a morphine and bandaged up, possibly driven my ural to a friend and survived it. But I didn't care anymore. Nothing could really top that moment, in that particular life. So I consumed all of my consumables, kicked my feet back, and let the human buffet begin.

Have you ever had a moment where you normally would have given up, but kept on trucking, and had some amazing results? Lets hear em!

That's an awesome story!

I remember one time, I was walking in the woods in a mountain (don't remember the exact location) There was about 20 players in the server, I never expected that would happen. I've been ambushed by 2 bandits, luckily one of them had a Makarov, and the other a Enfield.

I heard a enfield shot, he broke my leg. I quickly looked to my left and saw him. I took him down with my M16, then rolled to cover and tried to fix my leg. Sadly, I heard more shots and a couple bullets snapping near my head and again got hit. I was about to pass out, but I was like hell no not loosing my M16. I looked in the direction the shots were fired, and sprayed him, he was hit in the leg as well. I checked my ammo, 5 bullets remaining. I crawled to him and finished him up (luckily he was out of ammo)

That's the most intense battle i've been in, haha. :D

Playing Namalsk yesterday with a friend. I had a Winchester and my friend had a Lee Enfield.. Were east of Vorkuta, and we spot an airdrop as we loot it, we start getting shot at. He gets shot and goes down with a broken leg and tries shooting back at the guy. And while I go to look for him. I get shot and pass out. I'm out bleeding, blood blinking red, and I knew it was going to be a close call when i regain consciousness... After he finishes off my friend, I gain consciousness and my player starts doing the animation where you grab your gun three times.. as I do this, I start to roll and I heard him shoot and miss. In first person, through the grass, I nail him using directional sound and nail him. I crawl over to his body.. epi pen him to wake him up and to hear his response... and then shoot him again in the head while I was over his lifeless body. He was mad. Thanks for the map and compass dude.

most epic battle ive had with just myself and another player took place on Namalsk.

I was completely geared out with an AS-50 and warm clothes just walking about on a mountain. The server only had about 5 other players so running into someone in the remote location i was in didnt cross my mind. As im walking about i hear something moving behind me, and as i turn someone begins to spray an AK-74 at me. Luckily there was a tree between us because all of them missed except for one, which only took a tad bit of blood. Seeing how this scared the living shit out of me, i turned and hip fired my AS-50 NATO rounds at him which somehow all missed. Now both of us are dancing around this tree, him reloading and me switching to my G17. we both finish at the same exact time and he begins to spray at me again, and i start taking the shots at him without getting hit. I then hear a "crack" from his legs breaking thank god so i go to circle around the tree at him. well he was expecting this sadly and finished his mag of 4 or 5 bullets into my legs breaking them. Now we are both laying next to each other, bleeding out, and reloading for the 3rd time. ( i still feel like a nub for this). we both reload again at the same time and start rolling around popping shots when we can. I finally hit him in the head and killed him, bandaged myself, gave myself some morphine, and ate a few steaks to get back out of blinking on the blood meter. I can say that this was the most intense fight i had ever been in, and probably the worst aiming ive ever displayed lol.
