A little tip if you're newbie.

Recommended Posts

When I started to play DayZ, my average time alive was 15 ~ 30 minutes. Yes, I was really bad.

With this thread i'll try to give a tip for you guys who are starting and increse your average time alive.

It's all about practice, experience, know the engine, the mechanic of the game. Well, if you've played ArmA2 (which is unlikely) before, you will learn faster.

First: zombies. When I started here, I thought they were like 'invencible', or they could see me very easily, and escape from then was something almost impossible. With the time, I started to see how easy it is to kill, stay 'unseen' and escape.

1: killing. They can get killed VERY EASILY. If you hit them with a hatchet, they will die. If you have a simple weapon, like a Makarov, 1 headshot or 2 ~ 3 shot will kill it. Well, always keep a hatchet with you, they are very usefull. You may use it to kill zombies easily and don't make any noise. Note: avoid to shoot. You can attract a lot of zombies, or even a bandit, which is something you don't to attract!

2: stay unseen. If you are out of town you may stay stand, or even run, without any problem. You will find a zombie out there rarely. If you are in any city, stay always crouched. If you see a zombie nearby (50 - 100 meters) use the SHIFT key to slow your movements. If a zombie is REALLY next to you, lay down, and stop moving (if they're really really next to you); If it is moving towards you, use the 'E' and the 'Q' key to roll, and try to stay away. If that is happening, be ready to run, anytime he can see you and start to run towards you.

Note: prioritize the grass/sand to walk in! The asphalt can make a lot of noise!

3: escape. Escape is something REALLY easy. The hole thing is: run, forest, run! You can double-click at the 'W' key, and be able run faster. If you are in a city, turn at every corner you see, and always check if they are still running towards you. If they are not, crouch/lay down, and keep checking if they are nearby. If you are running for more then 5 minutes, and didn't escape, do this: if you have a weapon (a hatchet will help a lot), run to a house or anything enterable, and wait for the zombies. There they will walk very slowly, and you'll be able to kill it easily. If you don't have any weapon... well, keep doing what I said. If you are a douchbag, abort.

Second: bandits. When I started here, I really thought the bandits weren't a big deal. I thought they were a 'part' of the game. But they are NOT, man. They're your worst dream, they are THE problem here. I hate to say this, but the PvP in DayZ is something I really didn't expect to see this often.

1: Don't being a target. So, when I didn't know that those bandits were that bad, I didn't take any precautions. How? At big cities like Cherno or Elektro, there are a lot of SNIPERs, and they can kill you like ninjas. You die, and you are like: WTF?! To avoid it, don't be a target: NEVER say where you are in the global chat; Preferably, stay around the city as much as you can; If you are in a city, stay the much as you can closer to a wall, building, to make you 'camouflaged' or something.

2: "FRIENDLY?". Well, as I told you, avoid any contact any time. A lot of survivors kill because they don't trust you, but they are, actually, right. From now, it will depend about you: want to be a hero or a bandit? If you want to be a bandit, the tip ends here: just kill everybody you see. If you want to be hero, or a normal survivor, here's my tip: if you are walking around and notice someone that DIDNT SEE you, don't shoot: keep checking it, where he's going, if he's a bandit or a hero, etc. If he is a normal survivor (normal skin), just don't go there. If he's a bandit, keep looking but carefully. Try to get where he is, but unseen. Only shoot if you have a good visual or you are sure you'll kill him. If he's a hero, you should try out ask for some help or something. :). If you enter in a building, or something like this, and you see a person there, here's what you can do: 1 - kill it (except if it has hero skin) fast. 2 - if the person is unarmed, don't shoot. 3 - If you are a good guy enough to say: "friendly?", go ahead. But I"ll tell you: this is a dangerous option. I got killed many times for it.

3: I repeat, avoid any contact. Well, a lot of bandits make fake announcements, like: "There's a body in Cherno, near the firestation with a lot of weapons!", "Need some blood bag, low blood.", "Need morphine fast, broken legs!", and many others. The thing is: the most of them are fake, they're just waiting for you to kill you.

Well guys, I think this will help you, a newbie, to start play DayZ very well.

Tell me if I wrote something wrong, or something I shoudn't have wrote, or anything. Also, sorry if I have a bad english, I am brazillian.

Collecting anything is a complete waste of time..... Vehicles dont save well.. Tents dont save well... Hackers can do whatever they wish to u....

So kill. kill. Kill.......

Yeah it's a golden rule in Day Z, do not blindly trust anyone you have met in the game, trust must be earned by time and good actions. I once teamed up with a guy and after 2 hours being together he started pointing his gun on me every couple minutes (probably waiting for the best opporunity). He wasn't really talking anymore on the DC, I had a M4 and he had a Enfield.

I just had the feeling something was going on, so I poped his head. 30 seconds later on Side Channel he was saying "fuuuuu I wanted your M4".

Apparently instinct is a great factor in Day Z, and by the way nice guide ;)
