I downloaded Arma 2: CO from steam, and I opened it. I downloaded six updater suite or whatever... but when I try and play it says I don't have the DayZ files? Could someone please help :/

run steam as administrator, then open arma 2, close it, open arma 2 operation arrow head, close it, then launch the game from six-launcher

did you download ARMA2 (NON operations arrow head)?? you need both games downloaded, arma 2 and arma 2 operation arrow head, and you use six launcher to choose a server, download and update your dayz install to play.

also from what i said running steam as ADMINISTRATOR, is important for arma 2 and arma 2 oa to make registry entries sometimes.

also if your launching the game from steam not six-launcher, you need to run it as combined operations (right click on arma 2 operation arrow head, choose combined operations)

Yes I've done all that :). But I get into the game and I join a server... I get past the Receiving mission or whatever, but when I get to receiving data it gets quite a ways then kicks me out :/... I will try doing everything again. But :/ idk... maybe my computer isn't good enough:

your PC should be able to handle the game on low graphics, make sure HDR, anti aliasing, and post process are disabled / lowest setting, what error are you getting when trying to join a server?

I'm not getting the error, I think that part was fixed... but it kicks me out and brings me to the arma 2 homescreen if you can call it that... but where you get the menu choices of singe player, multiplayer, options/settings and all that kind of stuff.

1. Download both ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead through Steam

2. Open both of the games to allow them to install the required files, then close them

3. Download all of the DayZ Mod files into a folder

4. Make a folder named "@DayZ" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead (or your Operation Arrowhead base folder)

5. Then make a folder inside "@DayZ" named "Addons"

6. Paste all of the downloaded files inside the "Addons" folder

7. Extract all of the downloaded files

8. Go to Steam and right click, properties, set launch options on ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead

9. Insert "-mod=@dayz -nosplash" and click OK

10. Open Operation Arrowhead and select to "Launch ARMA 2: Combined Operations"

(If you get "Requires addon "CaBuildingParts" error, click OK and ignore it)

you must be getting a error for something, open steam, right click on arma 2, properties, local files, verify game cache, do the same for arma 2 operation arrow head

then right click on arma 2 operation arrow head, then click reinstall battle eye anti cheat.

then retry to join a server from six-launcher, also make sure you join a 1.7 server

wait a minute... do you mean download updater six? When I click download DayZ it wants me to download updater six...? one second... going to see if I was being an uber nuber and missed something lol.

I get an option to use SWE mirror or a DE mirror... the recommended option is using updater six... and when I downloaded that I assumed when I clicked server and it did all that installing I thought those were the files and i would just be able to play :/ Or... am I missing something?

People have been complaining bout the sixupdater, it's better to do it manually.

six - launcher (what comes with six updater, is much easier than any other method ), you click a server hit check files, then hit play, it launches the game and joins the server. only issue i know of with six launcher, is that it wont play well with vent, but atleast it will let him experience the mod.

The link i posted with instructions is more reliable.

Load up using the .bat - change filters to server name 1.7 > mission: DayZ

Its more reliable, ive used both.

i agree with you, i launch beta via the cmd with the launch options in steam so my vent and my overlay works, but i was going for the simplest method vs complicated.

not to mention the fact that he gets kicked from servers means he probably has a corrupt game file and or dayz mod it self is not installed properly and six launcher would detect that and overwrite the bad file with the newest correct one.

okay umm, I think it might work this time, I launched updater six straight from my desktop earlier but I clicked all programs and under updater six it asked me to check for updates and I did so. Hopefully this will work :)

Ugg :/ I really think it's my computer :/ nothing wrong with updater six... I mean it seems I get into the server fine... it just hangs and brings me back to the menu when it's receiving data... as if it partially crashed.

that's why i told you to verify your game files to ensure that no files are half downloaded or corrupted.

EDIT: steam has issues downloading some times, trust me i have over 300 steam games. and it happens all the time

perfect, what that means is steam detected it downloaded a file wrong, and it will automatically download and fix that file, soon as the game says up to date, its all good, go ahead and try to join a server again.
