Is there a trading protocol?

Is there any standards in the way of trading with other survivors online, say for instance if you are hungry and you've got no food and almost starving and you make contact with another survivor what would you then do. Please list trading methods you could do even if its 1 on 1 up to any size groups, preferably the safest way to make a trade.

Hopefully this helps people and me when I come round to playing it on how, if needed, you should trade.
