Mini Maracas 37 Posted November 3, 2012 Before I start, I know there still needs to be a lot of things fixed, but this idea could be implemented into the game after everything, around January time when Rocket said that they'll be taking risks :DSo basically, do you think maybe there could be a possibility of horses in DayZ? I guess it'd be exciting, running around on a horse, but they would make a lot of noise, and make you a bigger target, plus if your horse gets shot, you fall off and, depending on what surface you land on and how fast you were going, the possibility of a broken leg or two?Now some of you may be thinking, "This is a stupid idea", but tell me why, I like to know other people's views on things. After all, the community plays a big part in DayZ!
*Regulator* Jackeroo 14 Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) I think this a nice idea, and balanced with being bigger target, louder, etc. But I also think that the horses would have to rest after a while, and eat at some of the hay bales that can be found around a few of the DayZ maps, particularly Chernarus. Also maybe you could shoot a sidearm while mounted on it, but it would be more inaccurate the faster you're going. Love the idea of side arms being fired while on it. I'd love to see some epic horse chases going on! :D
SnR 16 Posted November 4, 2012 Have you seen how the animal population currently moves around ? its not pretty.
Mini Maracas 37 Posted November 4, 2012 Have you seen how the animal population currently moves around ? its not pretty.I don't have the game yet - waiting for standalone. I've watched a few videos of cows being hit by cars though xD They just go flyyyying! :P Maybe that will be fixed in standalone? Animals?:)
The Khan 9 Posted November 4, 2012 I don't have the game yet - waiting for standalone. *Snip*SAME!!!OK, back on topic. I think horse would fit in really well. We have dogs (Soon anyway), why not horses too.
harley001 315 Posted November 4, 2012 Should be up to 3 breeds. Horses unlike vechs have no spawn limit to balence it out since you need to take care of them and their not as good as vechs.
s0uthpawsh00t3r 0 Posted November 4, 2012 I have spent allot of time around horses. Mainly for hunting purposes. They Need substantially more water than people but food is easily found in the environment. You could never accurately fire any type of weapon off of a horse without serious ramifications. Whenever I have used a firearm near a horse. (Which occurred while shooting at an elk ) it required two people. One t hold the horses and another to remove the weapon from the horses scabbard and to discharge the firearm. A plus to horses though is a heightened range of senses. Often I find animals off of the side of the trail by closely watching my horses ears and eyes. They also react to crossing animals tracks such as bear and wolf. Maybe the implementation of horses could go along with a great fear of zombies from the horses.
SwissArmy (DayZ) 5 Posted November 4, 2012 The software/animation changes needed to get humans on horses and then ride around would be important. You won't get this in the upcoming standalone version but it's a good idea for some version 2...

The Khan 9 Posted November 4, 2012 If there'd be a DayZ 2 I hope it will use the Arma 3 engine, or even better, the Arma 4 engine (If it exists by than).

You have my beans! ^-^ Can't wait for horses. I'd love to ride around on one!SAME!!!OK, back on topic. I think horse would fit in really well. The horse could be a distraction, and just as a zombie is about to strike, BAM, dog bite :D
